Needing help with the basics (CS5 to CC17)

Is there an Adobe video that introduces subscribers to CC who upgrade from CS5?

I ask because I'm going crazy attempting to accomplish tasks that were extremely easy to do and whose tool activations were easy to locate.

--  I cannot find a way to make a toolbar to appear atop my Source Code panel. All that appears are the source code and related external files.     (  ; - (

--  Where is the Upload/Put icon or button? I've completed a page but cannot for the life of me find it or how to make it appear.     (  ; - (

There's nothing intuitive about CC 17. How and where can subscribers find out how to orient themselves to its user interface?

The toolbars can be found under Window > Toolbar (Common, Document and Standard). Unfortunately, they can no longer be docked together in a single horizontal bar across the top of the screen and one of them can't be docked horizontally at all, it's now a vertical-only bar (the Common toolbar). The Document and Standard bars can only be docked to the application frame across the top of the screen. The Common toolbar can be docked to other windows, aside from the document window.

The upload/Put icon was removed several versions ago and is now a two step process of clicking the Up/Down arrow icon in either the Code Inspector window, or the same icon under Windows > Toolbar > Common. You could also highlight the file you want to transfer in the Files window and hit Ctrl + Shift + U to upload it.

It may be worth reading Adobe's Known Issues page here: Dreamweaver Help | Known issues | Dreamweaver CC 2017 for other problems known to the dev team. Some of them are minor, but there is at least one major bug that will make using the program a fairly bad idea for anyone developing in javascript.

If you go to Window > Toolbars, you'll see there are 3 available:  Document, Standard and Common.  Put check marks by the ones you want.

The Common toolbar docks vertically.  On my workspace it's on the far left side of my screen.

In addition, It has 3 dots on it.  If you click the dots, you can further customize that toolbar with whichever tools you use most.

You may need to fiddle around a bit to customize your workspace the way you want it.  It took me about 15 minutes to group and dock toolbars & panels  the way I like them.   Once done, be sure to save your Workspace and sync preferences to your Creative Cloud space.

Coming from CS5, you have much catching up to do.  You skipped 5 major release versions.   I don't think anyone has written a guide for that.   See CC 2017 Release Notes.   Also refer back to 2015 release notes.

Nancy, hello again:

Although Jon responded to my concerns before you did, you included one that he hadn't mentioned: Saving my workspace. I've searched the menu options but can't locate that option. I see only the Gear icon that allows me to Sync Setting Now.

Is that all I need to do?

If not, what else do I do to Save the Workspace?

And are developers planning to enable automatic syncs? Seems desirable to me.

Thanks in advance, Nancy.

Hello, Jon:

Gee, it's hard to appreciate the value in CC 17 limiting the toolbar types and locations as it does. Hopefully, it won't be so cumbersome that I'll revert to CS5.

Regarding putting/uploading my newly completed page, I've spent several minutes attempting to upload it but cannot.

--  In your first suggestion involving the Code Inspector window, when I click the arrow one time, the majority of selections are grayed out: Unlock; Get; Check out; Put; Check in; and so on. What must be selected before I can put a file?

--  In your second suggestion, looking at the Common toolbar, I find the same grayed out options. What must be selected before I can put/upload a file?

Regarding your third paragraph's revelation, I've looked at the long list of CC 17 bugs. It's disappointing to see that it was released prematurely. Nevertheless, I do not develop JavaScript, however, the majority of my sites' pages include JS. Should [we] be concerned as to whether [our] JS script will perform as expected?

Thanks for your prompt and detailed response, Jon. I'm eager to receive your feedback on all three concerns/needs.
