OT: CSS Survey results.

As a few of you may be aware, Sitepoint recently conducted a survey on css, and the results can now be seen at -

https://www.sitepoint.com/results-ultimate-css-survey-2017/

There is a number of results that are inconsistent I found, some that either point to participants of the survey not answering honestly or maybe not fully understanding the question, and some that do not for me 'add up' when viewed with the results of other questions.

Never the less, I thought a few of you may find the results interesting, and before anyone points it out, yes I was pleased to see that the number of people using flexbox for layouts was greater than those using Bootstrap, There is however a big BUT for that, in that this was a result that was inconstant with one or two other answers. So I am personally not placing too much significance on that, or reading anything into it more than, 'I hope it is true' .

Also given that css variables and other w3c specs, that enable a css coder to replace pre/post-processors, are in many cases not as well known as they should be, (refer to the results on those who regularly read the w3c specs) and that a survey of Brackets users less than 6 months ago showed that the split between 'vanilla' css, and pre/post-processor usage was about 50/50, (also confirmed by other surveys such as one done by MS) the results for that had me wondering just what is really happening.

Getting back to the topic of discussion, as enough has been said about behaviour, and everyone will have their own opinion anyway.

In the survey I did notice that css animation library's were mentioned, and that 60%+ said they never or rarely use them. What would have interested me is the usage of pure css animations without a library, or a section on why and just what for someone would use a css animation library.

I know that used correctly some animation can help a user, but I would have though that a library would be more used to create ads, and not just to enhance the user experience. Maybe I am getting old, but using a library for css animations would I think be overkill in most cases.

Anyone else have any thoughts, or opinions, (not about me getting old though, that is a given ).

Its good to know Bootstrap doesn't fair as well as its made out to fair but in all fairness to Bootstrap that survey was undertaken by a better calibre of developer - add in the amatuers and Sunday driver Bootstrap figures and thats where it suddenly looks so good.

I also noticed the highest placed 'paid for'  IDE for developing was Php Storm (I knew I had good taste) everything else above that is FREE.

Has it ever dawned on you that only paupers who have plenty of time on their hands, would enter a survey, let alone read it. The better calibre of developers spend their time developing and learning.

No wonder Bootstrap and Dreamweaver don't get a mention.

It says everything.

Wappler is the DMXzone-made Dreamweaver replacement and includes the best of their powerful extensions, as well as much more!

Ben,

Although I can understand your desire to defend Dw, I am getting tired of this constant bickering between yourself and Osgood. If he posts a 'snide' comment in this discussion I will also respond to that.

Please if you wish to post such comments, START YOUR OWN DISCUSSION.

This was I hoped to be an interesting discussion, that users could comment on just what is happening in the css world, and if you read the survey, Bootstrap is mentioned, so your comment shows you have never even read what has been written, both in my original post or in the survey results that I link to.

Preran Please monitor this discussion, and lock if such posts continue, as it would be unethical for me to do so.
