Question

paste preferences greyed out

Hi There,

I'm new to Dreamweaver and have an issue with paste preferences being greyed out once i try to use Paste Speical. I'm copying text from Pages and have tried with a Word formatted doc too. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious and would appreciate someone putting me out of my misery if possible!

Cheers,

Ed‹

Are you in Code | Design or Live view?

You might try stripping out all junk code BEFORE you bring text into DW by pasting into a plain text editor first (see below).

  • TextWrangler
  • Komodo Edit
  • Sublime Text
  • Atom
  • TextMate

Hi Nancy,

I'm in Code | Design. I'll try sorting the junk code.

Thanks,

Ed

I can confirm this appears to be happening for Pages for me too.  However, for Word I am unable to replicate the issue and paste special works fine for me. What version of Word are you using?

Hi Ben,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I used the File Export to Word within pages as I thought that might fix.

Cheers,

Ed

That explains it. I was typing the same content in Word and pasting from both programs. This definitely seems isolated to Pages.  You could try submitting a bug report to Adobe, but it's hard to say where the issue lies (Adobe or Apple): https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html .

Are you forced to use Pages for all of this work, or are you able to use other solutions in the meantime even like Google Docs?  Unfortunately, I don't see another workaround because formatting appears to be lost when pasting from Pages.
