Paths are being changed in uneditable portion of template

I don't know how to begin this question as this has just started to happen. I have a page layout that is linked to a template with "Lightbox" js in the <head> section of the template. I open the layout file edit and add copy and other changes and save the renamed file to my root directory. When I open the file in a browser the js does not execute. I have gone back to the code and looked at the Lightbox js and there are three incorrect path changes that were inserted when I did the save and update.

I keep the page layouts in a subdir off my root directory. The Lightbox js is a subdir off the root directory. When I save the edited layout page I save it with a new name to the root directory. This has all worked perfectly for the last several years and even last week, but I am at a loss as to how and why the changes to the js paths are occurring.

Background: I am not a Dreamweaver or HTM pro, but have just enough knowledge to be dangerous. I am using DW-6 as a stand alone application. This is for my website:Two Lab Photography: Home and I am trying to update my gallery pages.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

John

Hello Nancy

I did the reset as you described but never got the Reset Preference dialog box. I searched the net again and found a better reset description than Adobe's KB description ( How Restore preferences in Dreamweaver CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6 | Solitude ෴ ). Followed along and deleted the proper files and edited the registry and restarted DW CS6 and I am still having the problem with the path to the Lightbox js. Short of removing DW and reinstalling I am at a loss of what to do next. I am at the point of just working with my work-around and making that part of my standard workflow.

Thank you for the help.

John

Sounds to me like your Template is corrupted.  Re-installing DW won't fix that.   Do you have a good backup Template stored somewhere?  If not, you'll just need to recreate it.

Thanks for the help Nancy. sorry I didn't get back sooner but I have had other things to take care. I tried deleting the Cache first and when I restarted DW CS6 the problem persisted. Restore preferences? This one left me confused as the Knowledge Base instruction did not indicate what the preference file was called. I never went into the Registry since the first part of this two part fix was not accomplished.fI have a work-around for the problem, its a bit of a pain but it solves the problem.

I am sure you would recommend I move up to the latest DW but I don't use DW to justify the expense.

Again thank you

John

Reset preferences in  Windows

  1. Close DW CS6.
  2. Open your Windows File Explorer.  For easier viewing, go to View tab and click on Details.  Ensure File name extensions and Hidden Items are checked.
  3. Go to C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Dreamweaver [CS6], click the file Dreamweaver.exe.   See screenshot.
  4. Hold down the Windows key + Ctrl + Shift and double-click Dreamweaver.exe.
  5. In the Reset Preferences dialog box, click Yes.

What is the path to jQuery in your Template file (.dwt)?

To create a child page, go to File > New page from Template.  Select desired Template from the list and hit Create button.  Save file.

Now what is the path to jQuery in your child page?

The path is identifying where the js located. i.e the path should be "lightbox/js/jquery/-1.10.2.min.js" and it changes to "Layout pages/Lightbox/js/jquery/-1.10.2.min.js"

Really odd and it just started to doing this.

The path in your Template (.dwt) file should be something like ../lightbox/js/jquery/-1.10.2.min.js.

What is your local site folder called?

To which folder did you save the child page?
