Re: Dreamweaver with WordPress, Blank Live View [Branched from 5 yr old topic]

Hi All,

I'm having the same issue, however I don't believe it is related to the solution above.

I have multiple PHP pages all with the same database connection settings, although some work and some don't.

The issue usually happens when I make a change to source code, for example changing a wrapper from being outside a form to being inside a form.

Then that page has a spasm and goes blank, while the others remain fine.

All of the content is still visible if I switch to design view.

I've tried the recommendations above for validation etc. however no success.

If I do nothing, everything re-appears again 24 or 48 hours later, which makes me suspect it may be due to a refresh or update required on the server side???

I'm not sure, but if there is a way fix within Dreamweaver would be great so I don't have to wait 48 hours.

Any suggestions other than those already mentioned above would be much apprecatied.

Also: using Dreamwaever 2021.

Thanks.

Hi @michaelr86189184,

You resurrected a topic from 2016 that was already correctly answered and is not relevant to your question.  I have therefore branched this to a new topic for you.

I don't know what you expect to see in Live view when your page contains no content.

Add some content to your <body> tag.  Ctrl / Cmd + S = Save.  F5 = Refresh.

<body>
<h1>Heading 1</h1>
<h2>heading 2</h2>
<h3>Heading 3</h3>
<h4>Heading 4</h4>
<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit. Hic aspernatur eligendi voluptas rem a eveniet consequatur nesciunt aperiam iste quos, laudantium fugiat placeat cum, animi illo perspiciatis laboriosam. Consequatur, quasi?</p>
</body>

Use code validation tools often and fix reported errors during development.

Window > Results > Validation.

  • Click the white triangle to check Current Document.
  • For PHP documents, switch to Live Code first then check Live Document.

Hope that helps.

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I think that the error from 2016 was not correctly answered as I had tried all of those suggestions with no fix.

And I don't believe the issue has been correctly resolved on the Dreamweaver side.

As I highlighted in my post, I DO have code. plenty of code.

It just doesn't show in the live code view when the screen goes blank.

(See images 3 and 4 above for clarity).

Hence I'm suuggesting that there is possibly a bug in Dreamweaver which causes the code in the normal editable code space to dissappear from the live code view, causing the live view to go blank.

Yes, this is possibly a result of an error or something that Dreamweaver didn't like, but it should not cause the code to completely dissapear from the live code view.

If you could look into that, that would be great.

Cheers.

This is a user-to-user forum.  I don't work for Adobe and I don't make the software.  I'm a product user like you. I cannot reproduce your problem at my end with PHP files and database driven content.

  • To parse PHP code locally, you need a local testing server running on your computer and it must be defined in DW.
  • My local testing server is WAMP (Linux/Apache).
  • My local site folder resides on my primary hard drive, inside WAMP server's default web folder which is www.   If you use XAMPP or MAMP, your default web folder is htdocs.  See screenshots below.

Also, if it's of any value in resolving.

Switching to Code Live view on the broken pages shows all code missing.

See below examples:

PHP page working - editable view:

PHP page working - code live view:

Basically the same.

Then the non-working page (Blank live view)

PHP page not working - editable view:

PHP page not working - code live view:

Thanks, let me know if any suggestions.
