Restoring Dreamweaver

I had a paid version of DreamweaverCs6 which I got on download from a third party supplier, who is now out of business. I was given a serial number which allowed me to activate the product.

About a week ago my computer crashed and I lost all my programs.

I tried to reinstall Dreamweaver from the backup but it will not accept the serial number.

I called the Adobe help line and spoke to someone about this.  He checked and said I had a invalid serial number,  I gave him my proof of purchase ($238.87-inc tax).but he refused to help trying to get me to buy a new version at CAD $311.88/yr.

This in my view is pretty shabby support.  Is there anything that the Support Commmuity can do/

Thanks.

Gary

#1 Adobe stopped selling Creative Suite in 2017.  It's not legally sold by anyone in any country.

#2 A real Adobe rep would NEVER offer you Creative Suite.  But scammers might tell you anything to get your money.  Who did you speak to?  What number did you call?

Beware of fake Adobe reps who may contact you privately offering to sell you fake software or take control of your computer. It's a scam, run away! Real Adobe employees will never reach out to you via Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail or Skype.

This was not Adobe suite. It was dreamweaver Cs6 by itself.

My issue is that the download I got and the serial number worked fine until my computer crashed.

This was in 2015.  I know that Asobe now only offers its products on a rental basis but I did pay for the product and it worked. I communicate to the reseller via email and I sent the support community scans of my emails.

Now I am told the company was not legitimate.  What I do not understand is how the  the program worked if the serial number was not legitimate.

When this kind of thing happens, it's most often because a company is illegally selling seats on volume license software to their customers.

When Adobe finds out a serial number has been compromised, they revoke the license. There was no "dial home" function in Adobe's CS software like there is now in CC, so old activations will continue working until the program needs to be reinstalled or moved to a new computer. At that point the activation servers recognize the revoked license and won't allow a new activation.

The third party likely only purchased one or a handful of volume license suites, and then turned around and sold those handful of serials to dozens, if not hundreds of users at a near "too good to be true" bargain price (anything under $300 US is a dead giveaway, Adobe never sold stand alone copies of DW for less than that.

Unfortunately, because of that, there's really no way to fix it, other than realizing you were scammed, and getting a subscription to the CC version.
