Setting up nav bar in basic multi column template
How do I create the drop down menu in the basic multi column template without having the links displayed as hyper links? Is there a short cut in the workspace somewhere?

Links are supposed to be displayed as hyperlinks otherwise nobody would know they are links and they would not do anything. Maybe I don't understand the question as stated.
Can you share the code you're working with? I don't know which basic multi-column template you're talking about. Templates & starter pages vary quite a bit in different versions of DW.
