"Show All" not showing!

Hello all. I am trying to learn Dreamweaver 2017 from scratch using a variety of approaches, one of which is the "Classroom in a Book" put out by Adobe in hard copy. I am finding it slow going. When the book says "this lesson will take you about one hour to complete", I find it takes me about four hours! Part of the problem is that  what is shown in the book (screen shots) is often not the same as what I am seeing on my screen. This can happen if I have my view split horizontally instead of vertically.

Another example is my "start screen". My start screen has a white background unlike the screen shot on page 21 of the book where it has a dark background. Also I am not seeing the "Show All" feature at the bottom. The bottom of my start screen is blank.

Can someone tell me how to access the "Show All" feature? Thanks

Kevin from Cambridge, Massachusetts

You may need to drop back to the exact version used in the CiB.

Every single release of DW changes the program pretty drastically. I'm betting you are using CC2017.5, but the book is older. IIRC, Adobe recently made some changes to the start screen, among other things, so the book won't necessarily line up unless you're using the exact version of the program.

You can download/install the right version by...

    1. Verify the version in the book
    2. Open the CC Desktop App
    3. Click the Apps tab
    4. Scroll down to DW's install/open/update icon (it could be any of the three depending on what version you have installed)
    5. Click the small arrow icon next to the DW button

    6. Choose "Other Versions"

    7. Pick the identical version from the pop up window as the book

To change your Split to the same version as the book...

    1. Open a document in DW
    2. Go to View > Split > choose Split Horizontally or Split Vertically (whichever one you need to choose to match the book)

    3. Go to the same menu to move the Code View to the correct location (if you need to)

The start screen will depend on how you have the UI colors set in your preferences, (4 setting i believe, from black to white).

As for the 'show all', i am not certain what you meen, if it is for the list of files, then this is a recently opened list and will only 'show all' if there are enough recently opened files to show.
