Question

Takes forever to sync files to server?

I have about 40 DW websites in different client accounts hosted at GoDaddy.

I am using a 2019 MacPro with the most up to date version of DW installed and the final version of Big Sur.

I am not sure when this started, but it is happening on all my websites. When I click to connect to the various servers it instantly connects. Then when I click to upload changed files to a server, what used to take maybe 15 seconds to compare the files and list those changed files to upload, now takes sometimes 5 or more minutes? The progress bar just starts out "Waiting on server..." and maybe compares one file per progress bar cycle, then says it will timeout at the end of the cycle after multiple attempts, then restarts the progress bar and maybe compares 2 or 3 files thre next cycle. Sometimes take 30 or more cycles to do the compare constantly flashing "Waiting on server..."!

If I use another FTP software like Filezilla, it is as fast as DW used to be?

I contacted GoDaddy Tech Support and they said it must be DW since they are able to connect/compare/upload files almost instantly to the two sites I had them test tonight.

My own personal DW site on GoDaddy only seems to upload from DW when I turn "passive" off? Still takes forever.  Never used to have to deselect "passive" the past few years?

No way to make a profit with this behavior with all the sites I have to maintain.

This has to be something simple somewhere I am missing... any ideas?

@johnd59898678 , like you I would like to understand what's going on with the slowness of DW.

well, here I am on Windows, but I also have the same problems as you... and it's happening right now... I mean, a week ago, ten days ago, I didn't have these latency problems.

Currently I'm working on various types of sites and applications (STE files imported on a selection of about 40 projects), all pointing to various types of servers (mainly VPS) and all... all... have slowness beyond acceptable... even the smallest synchronization operation takes ages.

Well, I switched to VSC in conjunction with SFTP (thanks @Ben Pleysier)... or Sublime ditto using SFPT... and it works great... no latency at all... !!!

DW remains useless... it happens regularly, and then it works 'normally' again, without knowing why or how... until now I attributed it to a recalcitrant windows update... but now... you're on Mac... so... Windows does not seem to have anything to see on this blow there...

so DW 21.2 build 15523... is it a common point ?

I am on the same version and build of DW as you are, and "Yes" sometimes (though rarely), it just fires off like it used to - syncs and uploads in maybe 20 seconds on a small site. I really hate to see this as about 1/3 of my income has been tied to being a loyal supporter of DW since the earliest days. In fact, DW is the only reason that I subscribe to the entire CS Suite.

When it works, it is amazing!

Do local site folders reside on your primary hard drive?

Do you have notes folders in your local site folders?  Notes are where file sync information is stored.

See screenshot from Manage Sites > Servers.

The local site folders are on an internal set of NVMe RAID 0 drives on a Sonnet PCI Card and that drive gets right at 7,200 MB/s read and write speeds. This is where my site folders have always been located since July 2020 and everything was working fine until a few weeks ago.

I do see _notes folders in all of my individual site folders, but I don't see any visable files in them

My server settings are the same as in your screenshot (but located in a different place on the Mac version)

_notes should contain a dwsync.xml file.

If everything was working OK on this machine before and suddenly stopped, it might be due to corrupt Preferences.  Try restoring them.
