Question

Template Child pages not updating

An odd issue has happened recently. I've created a DW template and applied it to several blank pages. I've then changed the template and saved. Normally, it should ask if I want to update all of the pages made from the template and show all of the pages on the list. Now, it only shows one of the pages. I have to then open each page and manually "update page" from the tools -> template menu.

I've found that a fix is to restart DW or go to site -> recreate site cache.

I'm on version 2017.0.1. In previous versions, the pages have all updated immediately upon saving a template. Is there a bug that doesn't cause the site cache to refresh automatically?

    Hi,

I tried the same steps and I am not able to see the issue in the same build that you are using 17.0.1.9346. Also, the update pages dialog doesn't come up if while creating the HTML template from New Document Dialog the checkbox -"Update page when template changes" is checked. Please see the screenshot below-

Also, to be sure that we are following the same steps, please see what I did-

    1. Goto File--> New-->HTML template (default check the checkbox)

    2. Add an editable region into the template file and some content- which wont be editable in child pages

    3. save the dwt file in your site

    4. Now goto File->New->Site templates-> select your site from the column and the template that you saved->click create

    5. save this file as child1.html and similarly create more pages like child2.html, child3.html

    6. Now open the dwt file that you created, edit some content and save the file- you will see that all the child pages automatically become dirty child1, child2 and child3 and you can see the edits reflected.

Please share a small video clip demonstrating the issue, that will help us understanding the steps that you are following in a better way.

I've tried it that way and it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I've also made new blank pages in the files window and applied the template to those pages. Upon updating the template, it still often does not update the pages.

The multiple computers that it is behaving strangely on are all school computers on a network. I'm wondering if there is an issue with their security protocols that are periodically not allowing write privileges. What's strange is that it happens when I have a root folder on the desktop (part of the network) or on a local drive. Even more strange is that sometimes when refreshing local files in the files window, a lot of pages just disappear and don't even show in a browser folder outside of DW. Maybe a call to my IT department is in order.

    Hi,

There can be a problem with write privileges, which is leading to this issue. Although the next time it happens do share a video clip so that we can investigate. For the other issue where the files seem to disappear when created on a network path, this was a known issue for windows that we have fixed and will be available in the next public release.

Do let us know if you face any other issues.

I can't say I have heard of this issue previously. I have asked my colleagues to have a look at this post. Meanwhile, you can use Adobe Dreamweaver CC: Feature Ideas to log a bug with the team. Provide as much detail as possible for the team to reproduce your issue.

    Thanks,
