Question

Transferring Extensions/Settings between computers with different Mac OS versions?

I've been having trouble the past two months getting extension managers to work to reinstall PVII extensions and have made a couple previous posts on this forum regarding that issue. I am posting this as a new thread because I'm considering doing something else altogether but not sure it's possible.

I have two computers:

Main computer: 2019 Mac Pro Intel now running the final version of Sequoia, and

Secondary computer: MacBook Pro M3, running latest version of Tahoe.

Both computers have the latest version of Dreamweaver installed

History:

When I upgraded my main computer to Sonoma several months ago, I lost my PVII extensions. I have tried three different extension managers to reinstall including DMX zone. Two of the extension managers appear to open properly, but showed no extensions installed in Dreamweaver nor will they allow me to install any new extensions. DMX zone launches but no windows appear. The real mystery is my M3 MacBook Pro, running the latest version of Tahoe allows me to launch DMX zone and install all my extensions properly! Why on earth does DMX zone work in the latest OS on an M series computer and yet won't launch in Sonoma on an Intel computer from back when DMX zone was popular?

As a Hail Mary, last night, I upgraded my main computer from Sonoma to the latest version of Sequoia (even though it is supposed to support Tahoe, lots of people are having trouble with Tahoe on the 2019 Mac Pro Intels and I don't need any new problems). My hope was that if I upgraded to Sequoia, perhaps DMX zone would launch like it does on my laptop, but no such luck.

So this brings me to my question for which nobody may have an answer? Is there any way I could uninstall Dreamweaver on my 2019 Mac Pro, then reinstall (clean install) the Dreamweaver app then somehow copy all the DW Extension files currently on my laptop M3 running Tahoe and paste those into the new clean version of Dreamweaver on my Intel machine? In essence, that would allow me to bypass an ExtensionManager for now, but would that work and if so, which files would I need to copy from one machine to the other and where are they located? I am obviously getting desperate for a solution!

Just hard to imagine that there is not a single ExtensionManager out there that works with macOS's for the past two years or so (at least Sonoma and Sequoia) and I don't know why DMX zone all of a sudden works in the latest OS on M3 series Mac! If anything, it seems backwards?

Have you tried this Ex Manager by Anastasiy?

    https://install.anastasiy.com/

In my experience, 3rd party Extensions have to be reinstalled, not copied. And since many extensions & their installers were 32-bit, you may need Apple Rosetta 2 to support them.

Disclaimer: I’m not a MacOS user.

Maybe someone with more knowledge about Macs like @Ben M can chime in here.

Rosetta is designed to run Intel-based apps on newer M-Series devices. In my case, my 2019 Mac Pro (Main $15,000 computer) was the last of the Intel Macs and does not need nor will it run Rosetta. That is part of the mystery. Yes, I have Anastasia’s EM Installed, it just won’t see or install anything in DW. I am going to try and remove/reinstall DW today to see if that helps?

@Nancy OShea Nancy,  thanks for the tip. Here is what my results were:

2019 Mac Pro Intel running Sequoia 15.7.4

I have (3) Extension Managers Installed (DMZ  Zone, Anastasia’s EM and ZPX Installer). To begin with all three would launch, but none would show or install ANY PVII Extensions.

    1. First attempt: I performed an Uninstall of DW 21.7, then I reinstalled a fresh copy of DW 21.7 from the CC app. (This did seem to fix a missing HTML Insert tab that had been missing recently). I then tried to install PVII extensions with the following results…

DMZ Zone - Would launch, but no windows would open - so useless.

Anastasia’s. EM - Launched and showed no extensions installed in DW and it did allow me to install all my PVII Extensions (40 minutes), unfortunately only ONE of my 46 extensions icons showed up in the insert bar (the first one I installed) - the other 45 were nowhere to be found.

ZXP Installer - Launched and had exact same behavior as Anastasia’s EM

Also, with both EM’s that appeared to install, for each extension I installed DW created a new greyed out PVII Insert Bar Tab that did nothing??? (see attachment). There should only be a single PVII Tab showing.

    2.  Uninstalled DW 21.7, installed older versions 21.6 and 21.5 in sequence - same behaviors.

3  Since I had nothing to lose at that point, I tried the unthinkable. I copied the entire DW Preferences file from my MacBook M3 Pro running DW 21.7 successfully with all my PVII Extensions installed (via DMX Zone). Reinstalled a clean copy of DW. 21.7 on the Mac Pro and then over-wrote the Prefs file from the MacBook copy. For the first time in 3 months ALL my extension icons showed up in the Insert bar - thought I had found a workaround. Tried launching the first extension - perfect. Tried second extension, failed to launch (said missing a reference file)… So my guess is there are other DW files scattered around somewhere that a CC DW Uninstall leaves behind? The reason I think that is part of the problem is that when I do a DW Uninstall/Re-Install, all 50+ of my DW Websites show up, so it has to be pulling that info from some resource the uninstaller leaves behind?

ALL of my issues started when Adobe auto-updated me from 21.6 to 21.7 (even though I had auto-update toggled off). Been fighting this issue for 3 months now. If I did not have 50+ Client websites that depend on PVII extensions I could just close down - very frustrating!
