Connection worked before the last Dream Weaver update through Creative Cloud but since then I cannot connect. I've tried checking everything but no matter what I try nothing works.  I've even turned off the firewall but that didn't work either. The message I receive states

'an FTP error occurred-cannot make connection to host.  The remote host actively refused the attempt to connect to it.  This may be due to one ore more of the following reasons:....

Correct answer Jon Fritz

Is the older version still installed on your system?

If so, you could...

1. open the site in that older version

2. go to Site > Manage Sites > click the site > Export to create a .ste file of your site settings
3. Close the older version and open the newer one
4. Go to site > Manage Sites > Import to bring in the .ste file

That will bring across all of the settings used in your functional version of the site. Often times, seemingly minor settings will be missed, like the checkbox for Use Passive FTP, and two sites whose settings seem identical simply aren't.

Thank you Jon, I had already check that. I have an older version on

another computer that I use for a back up. I was unable to connect with

that either and those settings hadn't been changed. I'm going to try

contacting the host provider.

If your hosting provider asks you to get in touch with Adobe Customer care,  use this link contact-bumper

- Click "Sign In to Begin"

- Choose Creative Cloud All Apps > Popular > Dreamweaver

Thanks,

Has your hosting provider made any changes to the server lately?

Are you able to connect to server with another FTP Client like Filezilla.

I was not notified of any changes by the host provider. I manage the site

for an organization and don't have the name of the host provider. I am

unfamiliar with Filezilla. The odd thing is that there was no difficulty

before the last update. Did Dreamweaver make any change that would have

interfered with the connection?

I didn't have any problems connecting after I updated to DW 2018.  But I kept my previous version just in case.

Hosting providers often perform regular maintenance and security updates without telling their customers.   One host in particular is notorious for resetting passwords and not telling their customers.   You should know who your host is and be able to get in touch with them.

Filezilla is a free FTP client you can download below.
