Your school is using the latest software, but is teaching you from an outdated book?

You should probably let them know that the older versions of the program are available to Creative Cloud Subscribers through the CC Desktop App and that they can install the correct version for the reference material. All 5 versions can be installed on the same machines at the same time (CS6 Cloud, CC, CC2014, CC2015 and CC2017), they just won't run at the same time.

Using outdated source material to teach any software is going to be maddening in the extreme.

The problem is, the internet isn't a fixed medium like Print. What worked 10, 5, in some cases even 1 year ago just isn't how it's done anymore. It would be a much greater benefit to the students if they updated their curriculum and the program to something that can handle modern internet standards.

Please don't use (legacy) Fluid Grid Layouts.  It was removed from CC 2017 for a reason.

What kind of mobile app are you developing?

DWCC 2015 also has support for Fluid Grids. You can have both 2015 and 2017 installed at the same time (actually, you can have all 5 creative cloud versions installed simultaneously), on the same machine, under a single paid subscription, they just won't run at the same time.

Here's how to get the older versions back on your machine through the CC Desktop App: http://blogs.adobe.com/adobecare/2015/06/16/how-to-find-and-install-previous-version-of-adobe-apps-in-cc-2015/
