PVII suggest CS6, do you agree with Al Sparber?

http://www.projectseven.com/products/ex-man/info.htm

I think that the latest version (CC 2017) is the worst version of ever (for usability and bugs... a lot of bugs, impossible to work with it) but also CC 2015 is not very stable, so... is CS6 the correct choice (also for server behaviours, not more available in the last CC 2017?

CS6 12.2 (the creative cloud version) was always very stable on my Vista machine.  I never tried it on Win 10 but I'm guessing it would perform equally well on that platform.

WebAssist extensions still work on CC 2014 and 2015 with the deprecated server behaviors add-on which you can download from DMX Zone's website.   I never had any trouble with CC 2014 on my Win 10 machine.  I could not make the same claim when 2015 first came out, so I reverted to 2014 for a time.

Today, I use CC 2017 and my sites are mostly database populated so the number of actual pages are relatively few.  However, I have a lot of backend php scripts and image files.  At most about 1,500 files.   CC 2017 performs well for me.  I have no complaints.  Maybe it's because I have disabled caching, I don't use file sync and I always work with local site folders that reside on my primary hard drive.

Nothing personal AL, but i would have to say that i think you are slightly biased in your opinion

That is not true, Paula.  And the fact that you have stated on this forum that you do not really use Dreamweaver anymore makes your answer extremely odd. This has nothing to do with my extensions. Nothing at all. Never has. You're just opening me up to an attack by the sociopaths who sometimes hang around here

Anyone using the old SB's is not thinking about the future of the sites they are building. They are outdated, and so far behind in terms of future server compatability, that those using them should not be charging anyone for the sites they build with them.

As for everything else, yes CS6 does have a more professional feel to it, but unless you know how to write extensions, in order to bring the code hinting and completion up to date, it is also out of date. That does not mean any CC version is better, as even the 2017 version is not up to the job for the coder.

Dw has a different target audience, (according to the Dw team) apparently, and is now aimed at the user who is creating small individual sites, in which nothing innovative is required. That itself is not a bad thing, as such users probably make-up a very large number of Abobe CC subscribers, (though i do question if it is the majority). Enterprise developers, will never use Dw in any meaningful numbers, as it is missing too many essential and required features, the fact that Dw will not even consider including those essential features, makes me question if those the Dw team are asking what is required, and the decissions being made for the future of Dw is a waste of time.

Does the target audience of Dw actually require what they are including now, unlikely, and possibly irrelevant, yes the Dw team have a plan, and a roadmap for Dw, but they have no idea what type of developer will use the improvments, or how designers would wish to use what they are including. Picking items to include, just because they are the latest 'talked about' features, is no use, unless one knows when and how they will be used, and just as important, what they will be used for.

WebAssist offers "MySQLi Server Behaviors" extension but to works necessity of the "server behaviours panel":

MySQLi Server Behaviors | Dreamweaver extension | WebAssist

The code generated from this extension is updated.

Server Behaviours are the killer features of Dreamweaver, without them is absolutely useless (only an expensive html editor).

There is a post made in the last few months, about problems with the webassist extension instalation in 2017 version of Dw, (no, i am not going to find it).

Piggy backing something on the back of the old server behaviours, when they have been removed, was in my opinion asking for problems in the future, and the wisdom of doing so is now what is causing many problems for users. Yes, the SB's were probably the main reason for purchasing Dw for many, and one never knows, they may make a comeback in an updated form in the future.

The question is though, what form? Will it be pdo or mysqli, as even the cms's have gone down the pdo route, so should Dw update to mysqli or pdo, and which group of users will then be left out in the cold. It is a no win situation, and as you cannot use both on the same page, (not 100% true) including both is also not an option, as it is guaranteed many users will try to use both, and then complain because their code throws an error.
