why can't I set up a recordset?

I have been building a site using my main desktop pc. It's all been going nicelt, but I need to transfer this entire thing to my laptop to continue working on it when I am away the office. I have set up the environment fine, PHP MySQL, Apache etc., everything seems to be working fine.

For some reason I can't fathom, when I enter a page and try to set up a recordset (of any kind) the buttons simply won't open recordset dialogue... nothing .. everything else seems to be working fine in DW8, and I'm not getting any error messages.

I am pretty new to this, but have I got a glitch in DW8 ... or is there something somewhere I have overlooked which is now set to refuse any attempt at setting up a recordset?

Frustrating .. but any help very welcome!

David

well after hours of desperate faffing about, I ended up reinstalling the update and now it seems to be working again... crazy waste of time. But at least I can now get going again.

Sorry you've had problems, but glad you finally got it sorted.

I have to say it's a relief it seems to be happy again and also how much I appreciate the fact that there are folks around who are bothered enough to offer suggestions and pointers. For me that really is very helpful.

You never know .. I might even get the hang of all this eventually!

I've tried to create a completely new site, using both a local testing server and an online testing server. In DW 8.0.2 the testing server dialogue claims to have successfully connected to the testing server and to the remote server etc.,

The only thing which is still not working are the 'recordset' buttons .. seems mighty strange to me.

I notice a few strands regarding something that Adobe have done to mess up recordsets (well I am only writing what I have read) or altered them in some way to make them more secure .. has this had an impact on the recordset buttons? .. would I be better of retracing my steps and reinstalling v.8.0.0 ?

Having said that I am pretty sure that the installation on my main PC is also v.8.0.2 and that was working fine (at least I am pretty sure it was) with creating and modifying recordsets.

I will keep trying but it feels like I am wasting so much time faffing about with this .. just going around in circles at the moment!

Have you defined a site in Dreamweaver on your laptop? Does the site
definition have the testing server defined correctly?

Hello David,

well I believed so, I replicated the instructions in your book .. but had to alter the address as port 80 seemed to have a problem .. already being used for something else apparently, So I am using localhost:8080 for everything and pages are being loaded. The site is sort of working, although the connections are a bit messed up as they were copied verbatum from the other PC which was using the standard setup... so I'm getting errors all over the place at the moment.

Which is why (to be honest) I was starting to look at replacing the recordsets. (new installation, giving me an opportunity to clean up a few messy bits that had crept in as I was learning)

everything seems to be working ok EXCEPT the recordset buttons just do nothing .. I'll try and set up everything from scratch and see if it makes any difference.
