Question

My plugin is "Not Compatible"

I created a swatch library way back in 2013 and sold it on Exchange.  It's not a plugin or extension, or script - it's simply a swatch library.  It "installed" fine for years - but at a certain point it became "incompatible".  Users would still purchase it, and I would have to end up just sending them an .ai file that included the swatch library.  My question:

Is Adobe Stock a better place for my content, since it really isn't an "extension", but rather, well .. content?

Could I have it on both Stock and Exchange/Marketplace?  If so, how to do I make it "compatible" on Exchange?

Thanks for any guidance!

Hi there!

This is actually something that's being discussed very actively within Adobe at the moment while we rebuild the Exchange and Marketplace behind the scenes. I don't have an immediate solution, but I do think your swatches ought to be marked as compatible... I'll see what I can do.

Isn't there another file extension for swatch libraries?

Yes, an ASE file - but it won't let me upload without file extension
because it says it's not compatible with the "parent" application.

Oh! I see why...

It's because when you go to open an .ASE file Illustrator tells you it's not compatible. So the review team (perhaps in 2017~) probably tried to do exactly that.

There's a longer more complicated answer about writing your own installer, but that's overkill for swatches.

We're overhauling the marketplace and doing more requirements gathering about all the stuff people sell on Exchange that aren't plugins (brushes, filters, swatches, etc.), but that's a long term solution.

I'll see what I can do in the short term about your listing.
