Fireworks Gone... Now What?

Today I updated my Mac and Firework no longer opens. I know Adobe wasn't supporting it but it was still available to use which I did so now I have LOTS of source files in .png format. All the programs I've tried to open the .png files with (Illustrator, Photoshop and XD) strip the Fireworks data so they are uneditable.  Is there another program that I use that will allow me to open these .png files with full function?

It is so maddening that Adobe a. Killed Fireworks and B. Didn't do anything to allow users to open native FW PNG files. I have years of files that are now useless and I've not found any software that worked as well for the web as FW did. Shame on Adobe!!

You can still install your older version on Windows, or in a virtual machine, and convert your files to a different file format.

Adapt and evolve, or be left behind. Harsh, but that's the reality of it. Fireworks is long dead software. No use lamenting the situation.

All very well but why kill a perfectly good programme and file type that thousands were using without even giving options for opening files created?

Hi,

There's no 64 bit version of Fireworks so you won't be able to use it on Catalina and unfortunately Adobe didn't port the Fireworks PNG format to any of its other programs.

Here are some batch convert commands for Fireworks that may be useful

You're options are set up a dual boot on your Mac or switch to Windows 10 permanently (Fireworks CS6 still works perfectly on Windows 10)

No need for a dual boot or switching to Windows 10.

Download VirtualBox (free) for OS X, and a free Windows 7 or 10 virtual machine for VirtualBox from Microsoft:

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/

Then install VIrtualBox, open the virtual machine file in it, and install a Windows version of Fireworks CS6.

As long as you have plenty of RAM

I think your only chance is to be able to get Windows 10 on your Mac, Install Fireworks, and then using fireworks convert all your .png files to .psd. You will need to save a .psd for each page of your fireworks file.
