I know that fireworks isn't supported anymore by adobe but I would like to know if their is a way to purchase Fireworks without having to have a creative cloud subscription.

Rayek: agreed, there are other emerging tools on the market; I was only addressing the OP's request for Fireworks. Also, the Education discount is RENEWABLE for each year that a student or educator is eligible, and is not restricted to a single year (thankfully!).

Unfortunately, the Fireworks downloadable software has been pulled from Adobe's catalog. However, it is (as of today's date) still a part of Creative Cloud, and while I know the cost of a subscription may be prohibitive for some users, you might be able to take advantage of the trial account as a very short-term solution.

Also, I always recommend to anyone in the education field (students, teachers, or parents of qualified K-12 students) to use the education discount; for approximately $20/month, you have full access to the entire collection of CC apps, services, storage space, etc. - well worth the value!

You forgot to mention that the education discount is valid for one year only, after which the full rent must be paid, of course.

I think at this point there are good alternatives for Fireworks available outside of Adobe, and either free or sold at much lower prices (and no renting: perpetual licenses!):

    • Gravit Designer: vector illustration app, free, spiritual successor to Freehand, and a really nice alternative to Fireworks if you do not need bitmap editing.
      Gravit Designer
    • PhotoLine: a similar combination of bitmap and vector editing with pixel precise vector tools, and pages. Brilliant layer stack, and excellent bitmap editing as well as good vector editing. Inexpensive, perpetual license.
PhotoLine: Image Processing & Design Software
    • Affinity Designer and Photo: great alternatives to Photoshop and Illustrator. Affinity Designer is again quite similar to Fireworks in that it support both bitmap and vector editing, but focuses on vector drawing.
      Affinity - Professional creative software

None of these output to html directly, although that is actually a good thing.

No, unfortunately not. Unless you are willing to risk fake copies on eBay.
