Question

100% cpu usage

Dear all,

Recently I updated my flash player to the latest version.

After this promising update almost all websites with flash content seems to boost my cpu usage to 70-80%.

Mostly streaming video flash  players on websites like youtube are even worse, with 99-100% cpu usage.

When I pause this video the cpu usage will drop to 2-3%.

I searched all over the web for possible solutions:

- uninstalled all adobe/macromedia products and deleted all adobe/macromedia files, cleaned registery, re-installed latest version

- same as above but with older versions (same problem with flash player 9.x, 8 worked fine but most flash content requires 9 or later... so thats not an option)

But none of this solved the problem . The weird thing is, on another desktop with the same operating system, browser (exact version match) and flash player (also exact version match) there is no problem at all and the cpu usage is arround 30% when viewing a video on youtube.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.13 (tried firefox 3.5, Internet Explorer 6,7,8, same problems)

My operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 3

This is a well-known issue with the Flash/Shockwave browser plugins and is not unique to OSX (occurs on Windows as well). It will cause problems even when there is no Flash on the page. It's most likely an implementation problem with Adobe. Uninstalling Flash+Shockwave player fixes the issue.
