18.0.0.382 extended support projector not working

I downloaded the latest 18.0.0.382 extended support projector  replaced the flashplayer.exe in the Flash CS5 players folder and re-published the player exe file for my production. When I attempt to run my program the player hesitates for about 8 seconds (the hesitation has been getting longer with every security update) and then it opens but does not load the required movies - just stays blank.

I've gone through this urgent security update about 6 times this year and up until now it has worked fine every time on Windows and Mac. I know there is nothing wrong with my code as the product has been working perfectly for years and has survived each of the security updates.

I also downloaded the Flash Projector security update 23.0.0.185 and that also opened but would not load movies.

Does anyone have any ideas why the new projector update no longer loads movies on startup?

Reading the software notes for the latest release I found this:

"When playing Flash (SWF) content from local filesystem, developers have historically been able to configure content to exclusively read from the filesystem, or communicate to the network. When this functionality was introduced over a decade ago, it enabled an interesting array of use-cases ranging from simple games to interactive kiosks. In context of modern web security, we believe that it is time to retire local filesystem functionality in the browser plugin. At the same time, Adobe AIR has been established as a robust, mature solution for delivering ActionScript-based content as a standalone application.

Vast majority of Flash Player users and content will be unaffected by this change. This change only impacts Flash content played from the local filesystem, using the browser. Flash content hosted on the internet and local webservers, as well as the Standalone Flash Player remains unaffected."

But the local standalone flash player is also not able to access files from the local file system. So that's why the new standalone flash projector won't load movies. I'm hoping that Adobe will live up to what it said in the release notes and allow the standalone flash projector to continue to load from the local file system - if they don't then all developers of flash programs that use the flash projector for their productions are royally screwed. Not everyone is able to recreate their entire program in Adobe AIR.

I also tried the 18.0.0.382 extended support projector update on Mac - Doesn't work.

The updates are supposed to counter possible security threats - I'm wondering if Adobe decided to reduce the threats by discontinuing support for ActionScript2 in the player. That might explain why the new projector won't load movies into separate levels.

Does anyone know if the latest update still supports ActionScript2?
