Is there any way I can confirm a successful connection to the update server? Even with outbound connections allowed in the firewall settings, I'm getting these lines in "FlashInstall.log" when running the update service:

2015-10-23+22-43-20.854 [info] 1614

2015-10-23+22-43-20.859 [info] 1615

2015-10-23+22-43-20.863 [info] 1618

2015-10-23+22-43-20.868 [info] 1608

2015-10-23+22-43-20.873 [info] 1612

2015-10-23+22-43-20.878 [info] 1620

Over than that, I can confirm that I can reach both of these links while using my browser, but that's irrelevant to the issue IMO.

Based on the contents of the FlashInstall.log file you already have the latest version installed (using the installer file downloaded from get.adobe.com/flashplayer).  Therefore, if the silent auto-update check happens to be successful in checking the server it's not going to find an update.  To verify that your firewall is correctly configured for silent auto-update you'll need to uninstall Flash Player, install an older version (posted at Archived Flash Player versions) and then run the silent auto-update service again.

If you see the following in the log file, then the request to the server is failing:

2015-10-22+23-34-0.712 [warning] 1470 12029

2015-10-22+23-34-0.717 [warning] 1474 183

2015-10-22+23-34-0.722 [warning] 1475

12029 is Microsoft's error code for The attempt to connect to the server failed.

Hi maniacofmadness,

Your system is not configured correctly, possibly due to the firewall settings, since you stated you have modified those.  The connection to the update server is failing resulting in silent auto-update not working.

What else is in your mms.cfg file?  Please paste the contents of the file in your reply.

Thank you.

Here are the contents of mms.cfg:

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1

AutoUpdateDisable=0

SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1

Thank you for posting the mms.cfg file.  I was mainly curious if you had SilentAutoUpdateServerDomain by chance in the mms.cfg file.

I would start by troubleshooting the firewall settings, as this points to the culprit as to why the request to the update server is failing, and ensure you are allowing access to fpdownload.macromedia.com and fpdownload2.macromedia.com.
