28 Day Slow Down

To whom it may concern,  I have installed Flash and exactly after 28 days, I experience a significant slow down.

The following versions have all been tested within IE11, and the same error occurs consistently:

Flash 18.0.0.232

Flash 18.0.0.241

Flash 18.0.0.343

Flash 21.0.0.213

This is observed within Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7. If one instance of IE exhibits the problem, and you open another, the slow up will again appear after 28 days.  This has been 100% consistent, and the only way to recover is to sort and start a new instance of IE.  It makes me think this is a deliberate feature and perhaps I don't have the required runtime licence to operate??

In terms of installation, the ocx was used and not the Flash Installer - would this make a difference?

I would appreciate any help/info on this issue as I have been testing / retesting for a very long time.  The timeline of 28 days is a challenge!

Flash Player isn't designed to run indefinitely.

There's a known integer overflow in a loop counter that rolls over at 2^32 milliseconds from the initial launch, which works out to 49.7102696 days.  Build in a little bit of clock drift on ~4 billion ticks, and 48 days is very plausible. My guess is that you're running into a similar issue, where we're probably counting back up from [-2^32 - 1 ... 0 ] to some expected positive value after that integer value overflows, which creates a huge amount of unnecessary work.  I'm aware of another similar integer overflow for which the fix is complex and risky for what we see as a very limited edge case in the generally available Flash Player. Running a Flash Player session indefinitely in a browser tab is not a use-case that we support.

Our recommendation in this instance would be to proactively restart the hosting IE process monthly.

If this is a critical use-case where Flash Player is encapsulated in a host environment (e.g. you're building kiosks or casino games that are isolated from the Internet, etc.), I can refer you to our business development group, who may be able to put you in touch with a third-party integrator that can help you arrive at a custom solution that would address this (this would parallel what was done for the casino gaming industry).  If that's an option you'd like to pursue, feel free to send me a private message (just click my name), and I'll pass that information along to our business development team.

    Thanks!

    Hi Kratika,

Thanks for taking the time to respond, but why would the next version of the FP help me?  Are you telling me that the issue has been resolved.  I have tested 5 versions now and each test has a 28 day window.  I am really hoping for a constructive response acknowledging the problem.

If indeed this has been fixed, do you know of a way that I can speed up the test to validate more quickly?

Would appreciate a detailed response and thanks in advance for your time.
