The folks that make the game want to get paid.  Because you're playing the game for free, they keep their lights on and their employees fed by providing advertising.  Advertisers want to know that their ads were displayed and whether or not those ads resulted in you spending money with them, so they require the game provider to store tracking data.  By denying the storage of tracking data, you're preventing the game developer from getting paid for their work, so they're not letting you play the game.

As an alternative, you could turn local storage back on, and just use your browser's Incognito mode, which would allow the content to store everything it wants to, but it would do so in a temporary location that's destroyed when you exit the incognito session, and the content wouldn't be any wiser.  The people that make the game you like won't get to put food on the table in exchange for your enjoyment of their work, but it will get you around the privacy issue.
