ActiveX versus Plugin

Greetings,

If I go to  Control Panel > Uninstall a program, it shows Adobe Flash installed twice:

Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX version 11.4.402.265

Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin version 11.3.300.257

What's the difference between an ActiveX control and plugin?

Thanks,

Shane.

Active X is for Internet Explorer and plugin is for other browsers such as FireFox or Opera. This FAQ may give you little more info:

How Flash Player installed on various browsers differ?

If you use other browsers beside Internet Explorer, you should also update the plugin to 11.4; get the installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#main-pars_header

But the Plug-In will still install successfully on a system with only IE installed as a browser and Flash Active X installed? Why is that if the Plug-in is for non-Active X browsers only?
