Adobe Flash and Microsoft Edge

There are several posts about Flash not being detected by Edge even if the toggle for Flash is in the ON position in advanced settings in Edge.  Why is this issue still happening to so many users?  I have a Lenovo ideapad, the latest update on Edge and I'm going crazy just looping into the same problem-solve-error routine. Does anyone at Adobe or Microsoft know when either of you will come up with a solution please? Thanks!

Nope, not really.  Without a reproducible scenario, we're not going to make any progress.

Since you've been through the other threads, you probably have a good idea about the data points I've been collecting.  I'm looking for the common denominator that shows me how to recreate the problem.

Was it always broken?  If not, what changed?  Was it a fresh Win10 install or an upgrade from a previous version?  Is the account an Administrator, or is the problem isolated to a Standard user?  Have you installed ad-blocking/anti-tracing/anti-virus/software firewall software?  If so, what and what versions?  Is Flash broken on a specific site, or across all sites that you visit?

Hi, I have an administrator account, upgraded from Windows 7 and Flash has never run in Edge.  There is another administrator account on the PC and Flash runs in Edge there since the last major Windows update.

I did have BT Net Protect Plus (McAfee) for ad-blocking/anti-tracing/anti-virus/software firewall software etc., but uninstalled it shortly after upgrade to Windows 10.

    I use Windows Defender now.

    Is this of any use?

My gut feeling says that something is wrong with ownership/permissions on something, but I'm just guessing.

What I've been doing for people that have managed to mangle their Win10 IE/Edge installations by trying to manually uninstall Flash using old instructions for Win7 and below, has been to have them remove a recent Windows Update to Internet Explorer, then re-apply it by running Windows Update.

My expectation is that removing the update will delete a lot of the same files, and reapplying the update should reinstall them from pristine sources.  In the process, hopefully the latent permission thing gets worked out.  Nobody yet has told me whether or not they were successful with that approach when faced with this scenario.  It works really well if you've manually mangled the built-in copy of Flash, though.

Alternatively, there's an option to "refresh" the operating system while leaving all personal data intact.

I'd like to know if either of those resolves it for you.  Refreshing the OS is probably easier for most people vs. digging around in the advanced windows update settings.  It would be really interesting to know if either of these approaches helps.
