adobe flash player not working

i have installed adobe flash on my windows 8 64 bit laptop, but when i go to watch something it says flash is installed but not enabled, when i follow the link to enable it through plug-ins flash player is not there and what is there are all enabled, looked on-line for help but im not the most technical person so i am really stuck, if anyone has any advise it would be greatly. appreciated
