What is the Adobe Flash Player Plugin used for ? Is it used to render Flash content from within Adobe PDF etc as Acrobat and Reader no longer have Flash Player within them  or is it simply a browser plugin for non IE browsers ?

There are about half a dozen Flash Player plug-ins for Windows and Mac

    - ActiveX (for IE)

    - Standard Plug-in (for other browsers)

    - PepperFlash (for Chrome)

    - The Mac Plug-in

    - PepperFlash (for Chroime on Mac)

    - The Beta version (13.0.0.80)

    - The Standalone player (for Windows and one for Mac)

The plug-in is a browser component. It activates when a web page contains Flash content (game, video, animation, user interface).

The plug-in is also called up by Acrobat and/or Reader if a PDF contains Flash content.

WHICH plug-in is called up, depends entirely on which browser you have set as your default for viewing web content.
