Adobe Flash Player tells me it's installed, yet...

Everything that uses it says, actually... no. You don't have that installed at all!

I swept through the pages of similar complaints, I followed instructions for fellow Fire Fox users, followed links to uninstall and reboot my computer twice, then install. All with my Firewall and Virus protection off (I'm running Norton's most recent). I'm on Vista. When originally installing it seemed to work fine, it told me afterwards it was successfully installed. But no websites that I frequent that use it (Facebook and Myspace) are recognizing it is actually installed. So after uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting for a half hour, I decided to try to actually find some help and came across this forum.

I really have no idea what the problem is. I went to http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about and it's telling me it's all installed. "You have version 10,0,45,2 installed" to be exact. I followed the instructions shown on http://forums.adobe.com/message/2606181#2606181

I'm so bummed they didn't work!

Hi, It is frustrating I know. Are you getting that message from other websites, like youtube or just Facebook/Myspace?

You seem to have done everything correctly. Now, Norton seems to be a problem, along with McAfee. The reason being

is that after you Uninstall and then upon the Reboot, Norton automatically re-enables itself. So it is not disabled when you

run the Installer and therefore it blocks the ActiveX Control that must be installed. Now I can't say every version of Norton does this, but enough to cause Adobe to have an advisory about this. Some Norton versions have a Firewall also.

Using IE, look in your manage add ons and find Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control...Flash10e.ocx and make sure it is enabled. Post back if that is there.

Using FF, look for the SWF vs 10.0.45.2 plug-in and make sure it is enabled. If it is not that version or if there is more than

one SWF listed, post that info back.

Did you use IE and install Flash Player? Did you also use FF and install Flash Player?

What version of IE are you using?

    Check the above first.

    Thanks,

I don't ever, ever use IE. But, I dug up the browser and checked the Add-Ons and it is only showing Msxml (no idea what that is) and Java(tm) Plug-IN SSV Helper. There are no other Add-Ons shown. I used FF to install Flash Player. So far it seems youtube does not work, neither does a lot of Blizzard's (the gaming company) websites with videos/pictures/stuff for April Fool's. I'm guessing it isn't working for any website? As for FF's Add-ONs, there's no Adobe anything in there. I don't see an SWF vs. 10.045.2 plug-in anywhere, either. I have Adblock Plus, three versions of Java Console, Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant, Norton IPS, Notorn Toolbar, NoScript, Personas (new facebook thing), and StumleUpon.

When I was rebooting, Norton showed itself as still off for me. I actually made sure of that because I was worried it would automatically start itself back up.

I have version 7.0.6002.18005 64-bit Edition for IE. I have the newest version of Firefox. It says it is 3.6.2.

Hi, thanks. Ok, the problem is that the SWF plug-in is not there. Sometimes with more than one Uninstall/Install, a glitch may occur.

Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash   Right click on the Flash folder and if NPSWF32.dll and NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe is listed, right click on each file and then Properties to obtain the version numbers. Then post back that info along with all other files that may be listed.

Ad-block would have been a problem for IE, not sure if it affects FF or not. But if you have to do another Uninstall/Install,

depending on the results of the Flash folder contents, I would turn it off.

Let's see what is in the files and go from there.

    Thanks,
