When Adobe Reader is closed at the end of this year will that mean that visitors to my website will no longer be able to view my pdf files?

To clarify, modern Acrobat and Acrobat Reader are NOT going away. They have nothing to do with Flash Player.

FREE Acrobat Reader -- view, comment, print & sign PDF.

Paid Acrobat Pro DC -- the complete solution for creating and saving PDF.
