Please help!  I have gone through multiple threads trying all different kinds of possible solutions and continue to get the error: failed to register when I try to download the latest version of Flash Player.  My OP is Windows XP and my browser is IE8.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem, but it is more complex. I have a dubble boot system (appel of windows xp). On the xp side I have 2 users. I have installed Flash player 10 on the apple system and on one of the accounts succesfully. But I cannot seem to instal the flash for it to work in the other account.

If I try to instal the flash on that side, I get the message "failed to register"

so I will be following this for any help.

    thanks,

Hi tg, Perhaps this thread will help you. The procedures are the same as I posted here. Hopefully this will help going over these instructions prior to uninstalling and installing.

Thanks for your help. Yes I did try the suggestions from that thread and

was unsuccessful. Right now I have Shockwave 11.5 installed. I have also

tried many methods of disabling various items in my Add-ons. I am stuck.

    Any other ideas?

Hi tg, Do I understand you to say that you tried them prior to reading that thread, or after? The Shockwave 11.5 that you refer to is indeed an ActiveX Control, but it is related to Shockwave Player,  not Adobe Flash Player. These are two different programs, although Flash Player is not a program per se. Nevertheless, look for Shockwave Flash Object....

ActiveX Control.....Flash10d.ocx and Enabled in your add ons. This ActiveX Control is how Flash Player works.

If Flash10d.ocx is not listed (vs 10.0.42.34 latest version) then that is the problem. However many times an old version is not removed for some reason and that is a problem. If there is any other version or any other Flash??.ocx please list it.

Most of the time add ons can conflict and cause FP not to work properly but it is some other factor that prevents an Install.

What anti-virus/spyware program do you use? Does it contain a firewall and if not what firewall do you use?

Also you must run as Administrator per the troubleshooting link in the referenced thread. IE8 due to Security is more restrictive.

You might also list what of Adobe is in Add/Remove and if a DLM(download manager) is listed, or a GetPlus.

    Thanks
