Can't get Flash player installed after getting rid of a virus

I got a malaware virus yesterday, and first did a system restore which didn't work so after that I used the product "SUPERAntiSpyware-free version" then "MalawareBytes" It got rid of the virus, but since then i have not been able to get my flash player back. I have installed it over 20 times now, and each time it says installation complete, but then does not show up on my computer. I have tried all the suggestions on the Adobe support pages i.e. making sure I'm on a 32bit browser, making sure my security level is at medium, allowing scripting, and downloading it manually, but none of that has worked.

I have Windows 7, and I am using a 32bit Internet Explorer 9 browser on a 64 bit computer. I would greatly appreciate help in this matter because I am going a bit crazy without my games and videos lol. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Laura

Still not installinbg correctly, and I am still desoerately looking for help

. Should I try to do a system restore because the one I did when I had the virus didn't go through so I was wondering if maybe that would

get my computer back to the state when flash used to work?

Sorry for the delay; I cannot be at the forum every day.  Also, the other forum regular eidnolb has renewed login problems since yesterday.

First  of all, you mention various anti-virus programs.  I hope that you do  not have installed them all at the same time!  You should only have one  single anti-virus programm installed at any time.

Regarding firewall: if you don't have any 3rd-party firewall installed, please activate the Windows firewall.

Now to your Flash Player problems; a few questions:

    • what files do you have in C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash ?
    • on IE, Tools, Add-ons, do you have Shockwave Flash Object, and is it enabled?
    • can you see the Flash animation (rotating red 'F') at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

As for a System Restore: if you have a restore point from before the malware infection, that may be worth trying.

Thanks for responding, and I just wanted to put new info or questions up everytime I had some because I've been working non-stop at this I wasn't expecting answers right away....we all have lives right? lol.

In responce to your questions: I only have (MSE) no other programs, I was asking if there was another that I could switch this one with just to make sure none of the malaware was left over, but I'm hoping it/s not since that was my 3rd diff. scan.

-Following programs are in my flash file: Flash10o.ocx; FlashInstall; FlashUtil10o_ActiveX.dll and FlashUtil10o_ActiveX

    - I do not have Shockwave Flash Object in my add-ons at all

    - The image is not being shown.

I tried to do a system restore 3 diff. times from 3 diff. restore points, and each time it said one Windows file couldn't be restored (can't remember the exact file name, but if thats important I can try it again, and get the file name). I did notice that at those restore points before the virus it showed that I had both the Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X, and Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin, but after the virus it now only shows the Active X, but not the Plug-in.

Thanks again for any help you can give me. I really do appreciate it.

Did the malware by chance install the Flash Player "kill-bit" in your registry?  Here is how to check it: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3432049#3432049

If it has been set, use the download at the bottom of this post to remove it: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3434922#3434922

Thank you for the suggestion, I followed your instructions, and I do not have the "killbit" in my registry so I guess it is not that.

I also temporarally got rid of "malawarebytes" because I read that that might be the cause of it, but it didn't work, and now all I have protecting my computer is the free "McAfee Security Scan Plus" protecting my computer so now I am also wondering not only how to get the flash player installed, but what free Antivirus I can get that won't interfere with my original issue so if anyone can help we with this as well I would be extremely grateful.

I was reading another thread where they suggested installing "Microsoft Security Essentials," but I have a quick question- should I have a firewall put up if I do not already have one or will that hinder me from installing the flash player as well?

Also I am still trying to install the flashplayer correctly so help and advice is still greatly appreciated. Thank you
