Hy, i have the same probleem, i can´t download Adobe flash player. Everytime i try it i get that message:
Error during Flash Player installation:
'Failed to install. For Troubleshooting please see: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166'
I have gone through every support step that was listed and still I can't download. Started with the install, didn't work; next came the unistall and reinstall didn't work. Internet Explorer ActiveX settings were all right but still didn´t work. Then downloaded SubInACL and the reset_minimal.zip file (Extracted the reset_minimal.cmd file to C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. , Double-clicked reset_minimal.cmd. , opened that thing it opened a black box where these lines started running and then it was finished, then i restarted and tryed to download flash but still couldn´t). Then i tryed that :
1. Select Start > Run
2. Type in “regedit”
3. Right click on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
4. Select Permissions
5. Select Advanced
But there was nothing under permission entries. It doesn't look at all like the example.
I have Windows XP home edition.
Please, Please, Please HELP:(((((!

My Problem was fixed with SubInACL. I had gone through all steps and it didn´t work but i didn´t know how to handle SubInACL. This was a Windows System Registry Issue. It was fixed thanks to adobes great customer service. Special thanks to Darren J. McNally for the help :)

Some of these issues do not require SubInACL and are resolved by using the uninstall_flash_player.exe to remove older versions first:

Instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash Player:

First download the uninstaller to your desktop from here:

    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157

Before running this uninstaller be sure to read the instruction and close all running programs.

    Run the uninstaller

Install the Flash Player from here:

    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer

    Test the Flash Player here:

Mr.Darren McNally. I'm not sure if I should 'piggyback' this thread but you seem to be the go-to-guy. My case number is #0180242914. I too have exhausted all means to get Flash Player to work since an update about 4 days ago. I'm running Win98SE and IE6. I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Roy Shepherd(buckone1)

    Darren,

I am trying to download the new version of Adobe Flash Player. I have been working on this for three days straight now and it is extremely frustrating. I have uninstalled the previous versions of Adobe Flash Player, and when I go to websites that use Adobe Flash Player, they prompt me to the adobe.com website. (By the way, I have a Windows XP operating system and a Mozilla Firefox browser.) From the website, I download the installer file to the desktop because it won't run with Firefox open. I double-click on the icon and it begins a Plug-In setup process and it completes it but no installation process begins. Then I go to Add/Remove Programs to see whats been done and an Adobe Flash Plug-In icon is there but with a big Red X over it. So, I have gone through all the online support steps to try and work on this issue. None of them have worked, including the SubInACL. I guess I'm just not doing it right. I really need some help with this issue. I have even tried calling Adobe and someone directed me to a specific adobe.com link to download a special Adobe Flash Player 9 ActiveX file. It downloaded and installed successfully but the websites still weren't picking it up. And it wasn't just one or two sites, it was every site I visited. I have read the forums and it seems Darren McNally is the guy to talk to. So, Darren, could you please help me as soon as possible. I have submitted a case asking specifically for you and have given you my contact info within the case. The case number is 0180239711. Thank you.

    Hi bthomp16,

I took over your case #0180239711. The steps outlined in this forum post are specific to Windows IE issues and should not be used for Mozilla or other browsers that use the Flash Player plug-in. I’ll work with you to help resolve this issue.

Hi Darren, thanks for responding so quickly to my case. Would you mind giving me a call again? Apparently, your number did not show on my phone. I am now at my house and in front of my computer. Thank you.

    Hi Liz,

Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to work with me on this Windows issue. The reason that the ActiveX was failing to install was that the Windows system registry had incorrect permission. SubInACL fixed the corrupt Windows system registry allowing for Flash Player ActiveX to install.

For other people experiencing this Windows system registry issue unable to install the ActiveX on IE, we used these steps to resolve this issue.

Download Microsoft’s tool to your desktop.

    http://www.supportflash.com/reset_min.zip

    1. Login as the User that has the incorrect permissions in the system registry
    2. unzip the “reset_minimal.cmd” and the “subinacl.exe” to the desktop

*** Make sure both files are on the desktop

    3. Close out all applications
    4. Run the “reset.cmd” file
    5. It will open a DOS like terminal and start running through registry keys
    6. When it is finished it will say “press any key to continue”
    7. At this point you can download the latest Flash Player from here:
