CAN'T install Adobe Flash player update

Question

''Adobe Reader could not open 'install_flash_player_osx-9.dmg' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).''

Above is the issue the computer tells me when i try to download Flash version 22 on my mac 10.6.8

i am having issues updating Adobe Reader also.

For some reason your system is attempting to use Adobe Reader to open an DMG file (Disk Image), which it can't do. DiskImageMounter.app is the utility app[ used to open the DMG files. Please do the following:

Right-click on the DMG file and select Open With
This will open a sub-menu to the right. DiskImageMounter.app should be an option. If so, select it.
If DiskImageMounter.app is not an option, select Other...
In the next window, navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/
Locate DiskImageMounter.app and use that to open the DMG file

You also want to make DiskImageMounter.app the default app to open .DMG files.
