Question

Can't install properly FlashPlayer 10.1 for FireFox 3.6.3

Like several people on this forum, I am reporting an issue with installing the latest version of FlashPlayer.  The scenario is pretty similar to what others have described : After uninstalling the previous version of FlashPlayer and installing version 10.1, I get a message saying that the installation was successful...  However, when I go back on Internet and visit a website that requires FlashPlayer, I get a message saying that I need to install FlashPlayer!

I checked the list of my installed programs (Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs) and it appears that FlashPlayer is actually properly installed...

BTW, I updated FlashPlayer the same way I always do, but this is the first time I am getting these problems.

Because I am rather novice in computers, I don't expect to be able to sort it out on my own.  So, unless someone on this forum has a simple solution, I'll have no choice but to wait for the next release of FlashPlayer...

Regards

p.s.:  I am using Windows XP SP3 (32 bits)

Hi, one of the first important things to check is the SWF vs 10.1.53.64 plug-in and make sure it is Enabled.

Next, would be to check to see what Flash Player files have been Installed. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\

Flash  Open the Flash folder and post back all files listed there.

We need to confirm that the above is correct and proceed from there.

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your reply.

Because I had rolled back to version 10.0.45.2, I had to reinstall version 10.1 in order to follow your advice.  But, I doing so, I forgot to uninstall the previous version before installing v. 10.1 (meaning that I installed v. 10.1 over v. 10.0).  And this time, a different scenario took place : the FlashPlayer installer prompted me to close Windows Messenger (which was already turned off!), otherwise it would't proceed with the installation. I rightclicked on Windows Messenger's icon on my task bar, I found out that I could "quit" the program and make disapear the icon...  I did it, and as soon as Messenger's icon disapeared the installer completed the installation.

I then launched Firefox to see if by any chance FlashPlayer would be functional...  To my great surprise, it was!!!

So, now that it is properly installed, I'd rather leave it as it is...  and not try to figure out why it didn't work before!

Hi, It is easy to forget or perhaps not even be aware that with Flash Player the Uninstaller must be used. I would think your Flash files looked scary:-) Keeping the new version is probably wise, especially after all of that trouble. Leave the past behind:-)

The prompt from Adobe to close Messenger I had not heard of before. Maybe that is some of the new features of the 10.1.

That would be a good idea, since it saves users getting a fail to Install and then have to start over. Thanks for mentioning that.

Appreciate you marking your thread as answered. The Flash forum has been extra busy since vs 10.1 came out so those having the same problem as your subject states will help in the search.
