Cannot get Adobe Flash Player to update on my Mac. What to do?

I am using a Mac with the latest system. When I click on the update Adobe sends me I either get and error message that says, in essence Installation Has Failed. Do  you want to try again?" I have retried 17 times and continued to get that message until, right now, when I got just a black window. Help!
