Cannot Install Flash Player in FireFox 3.6.8

Hello - I have been trying to install the version 10.1.82.76 of Adobe's flash player on my machine and can install it in IE 8 but  not in FF 3.6.8. I am logged in as admin on this machine with no  current AV program installed,  running Win XP SP3 32 bit.  I started  having problems with flash and FF 3.6.8 right away- the browser would  freeze and hang while "loading" remained on the tab- until it would time  out. I could close the browser but then would need to close the  application in task manager to truly shut it down. Yesterday I re-imaged  my machine, reinstalling firefox and trying many times to install flash-always unsuccessfully .  The install seems to be awaiting input from the user but no "yellow bar"  ever appears at the top of the browser window. I have manually added www.adobe.com to the sites allowed to install plugins (thinking that maybe this was the input the process seems to be waiting for), but this did not  resolve the problem. The install still just sits there forever with the  plugin finder service never apparently finding and installing the  plugin. The adobe Download manager downloads fine and then the dialog box for the flash install comes up- and then just sits there with the "install" button dimmed/disabled. Nothing beyond this ever seems to happen despite having tried uninstalling, rebooting and reinstalling several times  Thanks In advance for any assistance you can give me.

Same system, same 2 browsers. No problems to instal/update on both.

I was looking for somewhere to complain how hard it is to find the TWO separate installers here (ONE for IE 8 & ONE for Firefox 6.8) unless you look really LONG & HARD. Is it this SIMPLE?

The workers are too familiar with the site & assume it's obvious, I think.

Did YOU find the TWO separate installers? I wouldn't even try & explain how. Try another site that has them, Hippo or such. These people can't see the wood for the trees.

traymons, I see you are on another thread complaining. I just replied to you on the other thread you posted to. That you just registered to complain is evident. Why don't you help on the forum instead of taking time to complain as I suggested on the other thread you posted on.

By the way, I am not a "worker", but I do work. I volunteer time here to help those that are having a problem. You could do the same.

I thought saying there were TWO installers was a help. & yes I stated the reason I found these threads.

Just ignore it. Maybe you can get it deleted.

Hi bormal, thanks for all of the info:-) I would try this Flash Player Installer for Firefox(and other non-IE browsers)

Download and SAVE to your Desktop:

    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

Check any applications that use Flash that may be in the system tray and disable for now.

Close All browsers, Run the Installer and then Reboot.

When finished, Using FF, find the SWF vs 10.1.82.76 plugin and make sure it is Enabled.

Hopefully that will work for you.

    Thanks,

    eidnolb

Hi Eidnolb- Thanks much for the info, but after doing this, I still get the same response from flash- that is nothing- simply seems to be endlessly waiting for user input. So this, much as I hate to say it, has not resolved my issue.

Hi bormal, If that didn't Install then something is stalling it. Go to Add/Remove and if there is a DLM(download manager) or a getplus listed, Remove them and Reboot.

Do you have any version of Flash Player in Firefox? You say you have it in IE. Did you run the Uninstaller prior to Installing in IE and then tried to Install into Firefox and then could not?

Using FF, look in plugins, add ons and extensions for any listing of getplus, get_atlcom or DLM Control.

Then Using IE, do the same.

    Let me know.

    Thanks,

    eidnolb

P.S. The DLM is supposed to download Flash Player and then disconnect, but many times it does not and causes problems and I think that is what happened.
