Cant load Flash 10.1

Ran the installer and it says it completed it 100%. Then a window pops up and says "Cant install because an existing version may stil

l be in use. Close all applications using Flas Player and try again". I don't have any applications open, so not sure what to close. I have uninstalled the previous version of Flash Player, set IE8 security settings to medium, and done all the other things suggested. Any ideas?

It does appear that Shockwave Flash Object was loaded. It is enabled and the version number is 10.1.102.64

As an aside, it shouldnt be this hard to load a piece of free software!

Hi, thanks. Try this: Download and SAVE the Uninstaller to your Desktop:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Then go to this site and Download and SAVE the Installer to your Desktop:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html You will use the Windows-Internet Explorer- Download EXE Installer

Once you have those on your Desktop, Close all browsers, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.

Disable messenger services in the system tray, whether you use them or not. They are still active & use Flash.

RUN the Uninstaller and when it is finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

RUN the Installer and when it is finished, Reboot your computer.

Go here to test and let me know if you see the Flash logo animate(spin) and what version of Flash Player is displayed.

Then go to Tools, Manage addons and look under "Show", all addons or Run without Permission & find Shockwave Flash Object.

Make sure it is Enabled and the version is the same version of Flash Player that was displayed.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

Hi, good for you. I think you just needed a better procedure to use. This is what I use if I have to manually Install.

I would appreciate it if you would mark your thread as answered.

    Thanks for posting back:-)

Hi, Thanks for the info. If you use any messenger service, you may have overlooked disabling it in the system tray(area near the clock) I think that is what the message may pertain to.

Did you Uninstall/Install manually from the Desktop?

When you reply back, include your operating system info and versions of the browsers you use.

    Thanks,

Closed Windows Messenger (even though I never use it). Still get the same error message. I uninstalled the previous version using the Control Panel, and tried to install manually from the desktop using the program I downloaded from Adobe.

Using Windows XP Ver 5.1 Ser Pack 3 and IE8 Ver 8.0.6001
