Changing Alternate Image on Error using Flash Player

I am having issues with some of my visitors that use Internet Explorer not being able to view my animation. Is there a way to display a still image that I have created instead of the grey Flash empty box?

I've tried doing this by placing the Flash container in a div with a background image.

Problem is, the "Get Flash" swf appears and takes the whole container, and thus, the whole DIV.

It's best to not use Flash animations is what I've discovered. People who visit your site with a mobile phone, tablet or iPad WON'T ever see the Flash content anyway. You're making it invisible to a growing audience. If it's a simple enough animation, try doing it as a GIF in Fireworks. If it can be converted to HTML5 (MP4), do that. Then no one will need a plugin or player to see it.
