Confused after 10.1 install

On my intel mac, I have the Flash Player 9 app that came with Adobe Master Collection.  I was expecting the Flash Player 10 upgrade to replace that app with a new one.  I searched and found that one of the Flash Player plug-ins is 10.1  Everything seems to work fine but I'm confused regarding what the upgrade really did.  Is it just adding a new plug-in?  Should I do something to the Flash Player 9 files, apps and plug-ins?  I've been told that having up to date Flash Players is the best way to insure against virus attacks on Macs.  If this is true, I want to be sure I've got the latest version installed properly.  Many thanks.

Hi, I am not very familiar with exactly where the Flash files are located in the Mac so am unable to have you check. Since Flash Player is a browser plug-in, meaning that it Installs a plug-in into the browser that works with the Flash files that are Installed. You have the 10.1 plug-in, so you should have the 10.1 Flash files also, not the version 9 files. Even tho Flash Player is a "plug-in" that term can mean the Flash files themselves or the SWF (Shockwave Flash) Control that is Installed into the browser. It's confusing since Flash Player, which includes the files plus the browser add on is referred to as the Flash Player plug-in. Actually Flash Player consists of the Flash files which are Installed in a location, separate from the SWF Control add on that is Installed into the browser.

I hope I haven't confused you in trying to explain the way the terms are used, which is I think is confusing.

When Flash Player has an Update released, the Adobe Uninstaller is used to remove the old version before the current update files are Installed.

Did you use the Adobe Uninstaller before Installing the 10.1? This is the link:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html  I'm not suggesting to do this at the moment, just read it over. You will see the various instructions for Mac there.

Also you can test your version here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

Perhaps someone that uses Mac will come by that can be more helpful.

    Thanks,
