Crash in Flash Player when using Captivate 2019 on MacOS 10.14.1

I was trying to open up a file that ends with ".SWF" via Flash Player on my new MacBook Pro.

For some reason, I keep getting a blank screen and it looks as if the application is trying to play the file but you don't see or hear anything.

I also get an error message with Flash Player that says, "PREFERENCES ERROR, COULD NOT LOAD FLASH PLAYER PREFERENCE PANE" and it shows another message that says, "LOADING FLASH PLAYER".

Does anyone know how I can get Flash working?

    Hi Nya Flores,

When I download the latest standalone Flash Player from Adobe Flash Player - Debug Downloads  and try to open the SWF, it worked fine. someone from Captivate Support will contact you and resolve the issue.

If this doesn't get resolved. Please write to me at sankaram@adobe.com.

    Thanks,

    Sankaram

Also, I don't fully know what the workflow you're using is, but if you can export the project to HTML or SWF, then you should be able to open the HTML with the current Flash Player version hosted in your browser, or you could open the resulting SWF with the current Projector version that you downloaded.

That probably doesn't help much with the built-in preview (I imagine this is where this is getting used), but hopefully it helps you work around the issue a little while it gets sorted out.

Flash Player is a free product, and Adobe doesn't offer technical support for free products.  If you were looking for support on Flash Player, it would definitely direct you to the forums, but in this instance, it's really a Captivate problem because they're bundling Flash as an underlying technology component.  It's not the Flash Player on your system that's crashing, but the one baked into Captivate.

Captivate is a paid product, and you should be entitled to direct support.  That said, I totally get it if you want to wait for a response.  It seems like a relatively new issue, and I don't see any indications that it's generating a lot of support traffic at the moment.  I don't see evidence that the support team has a handy solution ready at this point.

I don't expect to hear back from the right people on the Captivate engineering team until the morning (at the earliest), just FYI.

Just for completeness, if you do want to talk to support about Captivate, the contact information is on the page below:

Ok.  Thank you For the feedback and suggestions.  I won’t be able to get to Customer Support until Friday because I’m doing a training all day.

I don’t know how to export to HTML or SWF (The latter Is the current format of the files I can’t open now.)

I played around with this, and I can reproduce the issue that you're describing.

I'm not a Captivate expert.  My hope was that you could drop the current standalone player (we use "standalone player" and "projector" interchangeably, in case I slip and call it the wrong thing again) into the correct location in Captivate and it would just work, but that doesn't appear to be the case.  Captivate actually includes a little built-in player, which uses Flash Player as a component under the hood.  It doesn't look like I can just swap that out without breaking the parent application.

Have you talked to Captivate support at this point?  They may have an answer already.

In the meantime, I've sent an email to the Captivate team to let them know that we're getting reports of this, and to see if they have a workaround that will resolve this for you quickly.

I'll update the thread as soon as I know more.

No, I have not contacted anyone at captivate because I thought the instructions on the ADOBE website said to post questions in the forum .

I will wait to hear back from you .

    Thank you .

Are you attempt to use the browser plugin or the Flash Projector?

If you're trying to use the browser plugin, try using the Flash Projector instead.  It's available for download at Adobe Flash Player - Debug Downloads.  Scroll down to Macintosh section and then click on the 'Download the Flash Projector' link.

If the file is saved locally on your computer, see the 'Disabling local-with-filesystem access in Flash Player by default' section of the Flash Player 23 Release Notes for information on allowing Flash to load local content.

If you're still experiencing issues, post a screenshot of any message (error or otherwise) that is displayed

    Thank you Maria.

Looks like Flash Player finally loaded or updated (see screenshot).  The file is on my desktop and after following the instructions you sent, I still can't get it to open them (The blank screen keeps showing up when I try to open the file.)

Here are some additional screenshots (attached).  I've also attached the error report if this helps...Open to any other suggestions you might have.

Can you cut and paste the contents of the text window in that crash report?  All the good stuff is below the fold.

If it's really long, you might need to break it up into two posts, or you could put it on pastebin or something.
