Custom component not displaying in IE Flash Player on Windows 8

Hi All

We have an e-learning application coded in Actionscript 2 that we have been testing on Windows 8. Everything is fine in Chrome, but the Flash Player in Internet Explorer doesn't display some text in one of the custom built components: a BiModal activity. The selectable options are visible, and the values are collected and displayed on the Feedback screen, but the text itself is not displayed on the selectable options. We coupld re-work the code, but this would require the re-compiling of all of our e-learning materials (hundreds of items - already live), so can anyone suggest why the Flash Player in Chrome works differently to Internet Explorer in Windows 8, or who to contact regarding possible adaptations/amendments to the Internet Explorer Flash Player?

Thanks.

Dave

The problem with the Flash Player for Internet Explorer in Windows 8 and 8.1 is this:
Adobe writes the base code. They hand it off to Microsoft, and it's modified, then embedded into the browser. There's a Windows Update KB patch that prevents removing, updating or reinstalling Flash Player via any method but Windows Update. "It's their baby" so to speak.

Add to that, Microsoft "pooched" some code in their latest abomination, called a browser, which prevents a load of pages and apps from recognizing it. The fools in Redmond are sitll waiting for the rest of the world to change the way they do everything, so the whole Internet will work according to IE11's code, which ISN'T going to happen. MS needs to fix their browser, and they're in no hurry to do it.

While Adobe collaborates with Microsoft on updates and patches, the finished product is Microsoft's. They're the ones you need to contact about IE problems. I wouldn't expect much. They still can't admit that Windows 8 is a massive pile of junk.

    Hi Mike

Thanks for the insight into how the player works (or doesn't) in the IE environment - and for the comments that suggest you have a similar level of respect for Mr Gates' products as my colleagues and I (its always good to know that you're not alone)

I think I will contact Microsoft about the issue - if only to annoy them like they've annoyed me over the years (mainly for the abomination that was Vista) - but I suppose in the meantime we'll just have to direct our users to use real browsers like Chrome. I won't be expecting much though...

    Thanks again
