Do I need BOTH Adobe Flash Player 16 NPAPI and Adobe Flash Player 17 ActiveX?

I noticed that I have two versions of Flash installed (16 and 17) although one says NPAPI and the other says ActiveX. Do I need both or can I safely delete Adobe Flash Player 16 NPAPI?

Each major browser has a different plug-in architecture, which means that there's a unique version of Flash Player for it:

ActiveX is for Internet Explorer.  NPAPI is for Firefox and other NPAPI-based browsers.  PPAPI is for Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers.
