Ok, so I'm not a techy, but I've obviously stumbled upon something here, maybe this will help you too.  I've been trying to download flash player for days without any success.  I must have installed and uninstalled, started and restarted my computer over a dozen times.  Ugggh how frustrating!  Anyway I downloaded Adobe flash player 9, and now it works!  I don't understand how, because my system doesn't show it (flash player version 9) in the programs, but after I did that, my utube worked again, and the websites don't ask me to download the latest version of Adobe!  Yeay!  Incidentally, although my system shows the latest adobe flash player 10, it doesn't show the file size, the area is just blank (whatever that indicates).

Hope this helps someone. . .

I'm having the same problem you were having.  Spent all day trying to get Flash Player to download, even with the assistance of the Concierge Tech from Costco Computers, to no avail.  Glad you got yours to work.  Where do I find Flash 9 so I can download it?  Thanks.

Thanks -- I found it.  For anyone else who's looking for it, I went to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html.  I opened  Flashplayer 9 (debugger version).  I then downloaded flashplayer9r16_winax.  The first time I did this, I went directly to downloading the new version of Flash Player, but it still didn't work.  So then I started over and after downloading flashplayer9r16_winax,  I also downloaded Adobe Shockwave, then went into Tools, Manage Add-Ons, and enabled Shockwave.  I then downloaded the new version of Flash Player, which apparently installed right over version 9.   I have now watched videos on YouTube, and I've also opened games in Facebook, which were the two things I hadn't been able to do previously.  SO FAR, SO GOOD.  THANK THE LORD!! (AND THANKS TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO MADE SUGGESTIONS AND HELPED ME ARRIVE AT THIS SOLUTION.)

Your right, thats exactly what I did (flashplayer9 debugger)!  I couldn't remember even how I got to that download.  I do remember it saying that those downloads were for programmers. (not novices like me).  But in my desperation I went there anyway.  It seems like in one of the forums I had read about how if you don't have one of the earlier versions of flashplayer that some essential components were missing.  Since I had uninstalled all of my flashplayers, evidently that was the case.  I'm glad it worked for you too!
