firefox-downloads but installer doesnt start

I'm trying to download the latest flashplayer, using Firefox 6.0.2 on Windows Vista. I download the file, double-click it, and click the "run" button. User Account control window pops up, I select the "continue" button...and then nothing happens. the installer window never opens. Can anyone help?

Hi Melissa,

Could you try the following steps?

1. Download the stand alone uninstaller

2. Close all your browser windows

3. Run the uninstaller

4. Restart your computer

5. Delete the following folder, depending on your operating system type:

Windows 32bit - c:\Windows\system32\macromed
Windows 64bit - c:\windows\syswow64\macromed

6. Download and install Flash Player located here:

Flash Player for other browsers

Thanks very much for this suggestion!

I'm sorry to have to ask this, but I don't know a lot about computers and

awhile ago I had trouble getting windows updates to install on my computer.

I was then told by a Dell technician to delete an update file from my

computer, and after doing so, when the updates finally installed and I tried

to restart my computer as instructed, the hard drive completely crashed and

I had to reinstall everything.

Could you please reassure me that deleting the below file you referenced is

safe and won't possibly cause a similar situation? My computer is pretty

vital to me and I definitely couldn't handle or afford having another hard

drive failure right now....

Deleting the Macromed folder as Chris instructed will definitely not render your computer unusable.

However, from the disaster that occurred to you earlier, you should be advised that you should regularly back up all files on your computer. Windows itself contains a backup utility, and Dell also installs its own backup utility on their computers.
