Flash 10 hangs Internet Explorer 7 on Vista?

I installed Flash 10 on my dad's computer last Saturday. He emailed me today to tell me that Internet Explorer 7 had been a few times over the past few days which he things started around Tuesday. Since the only change to IE7 made recently was upgrading from Flash 9 to Flash 10, Flash 10 is my suspect.

Are there any reports of Flash 10 causing IE7 to hang in Vista?

For me, even going back to Flash 9 does not fix the issue.

    www.youtube.com - no problem.
    www.shockwave.com - no problem.
    www.ebay.com - delayed 30sec.
www.dart.org - delayed 30sec. (due to flash on right sidebar)

I am behind a corporate proxy/firewall, so, perhaps, in those cases, there is something in that flash component (like proxy settings) that is confused.

No strange delays here with 9.0.151.0... please try also at home to confirm a config problem of your corp.

You don't have to renounce to Flash until Adobe fixes the bug.
Just uninstall Flash 10 and install V9 from http://www.adobe.com/go/kb406791 instead, as said in previous msgs...

when is this problem going to be fixed
i am tired of disabling the flash when i go on certain sites
    such as www.projectrockstar.com
    i previously posted my problem
using ie7, f10, and windows vista

why is there not a fix.

There is no fix because Adobe doesn’t really care/have much incentive to fix Flash’s issues. They already have a near monopoly when it comes to video and animation on the web so they continue to put few resources into addressing the problems since that won’t affect their market share. However, if you continue to leave Flash disabled, Toggle Flash ( http://flash.melameth.com ) can assist with this, the usefulness of Flash will decline and Adobe will put more resources on addressing Flash’s problems because leaving Flash disabled doesn’t help them.

For me, its weird. If I go to a problem website, the webpage will not load until 30 seconds have passed. (as if flash 10 was our corporate computer had a problem with a firewall or something).
If I disable flash or the website temporarily hides all flash content, the webpage will load normally.
    Works fine: www.youtube.com
    Do not work fine: www.ebay.com
The browser will take 30 seconds to complete/finish the default page load. If the component is disabled, then it will load fine.

I have not had much luck on going to older versions yet to get around this problem. I have identified only 2 websites (out of alot) that I have encountered this problem.

    Hi Darwincollins-
Ebay is a really bloated site with lots of bells and whistles. It doesn't surprise me that you have trouble with it. When I use it (rarely), I go straight to a specific region and not the general (home) page. Gets there quicker. As you mentioned, disabling the FP10 activeX does really speed it up, but cuts site features that you may want. Unfortunately, you can't disable/enable the activeX while on the site. Someone in this thread did mention a 3rd party "toggle" to turn them on/off (haven't tried it), so ya might want to check that out. The fact that you're good for YouTube is a very good sign that your FP10 is OK. One thing you could do is to make sure that you pause/stop any vids you were watching on a site before moving to the next site, to make sure that they aren't still trying to load in the background (release issues). If ya want to revert to one of the v9s, both Hexaee and I have given these links in previous posts in this thread. Post again if you have any questions.

I would suggest that Adobe fixing its deadlock or whatever the issue may be is a far better solution for the casual user than installing and dealing with a debug version of flash. In other words, while its good to know that there is a potential workaround for those that brave it the vast majority of those affected will not or cannot go down this road (and for good reason).

I am having the same problem with Internet Explorer 7 Hanging with the update of Flash Player 10, I have had to rollback to Flash Player 9 on 3 PC's , they are all HP with Windows Vista Home Edition. I have even tried updating to the Internet Explorer 8 Beta RC1 on the website and no change it still is hanging up.

    Please Adobe Fix This Issue!!!!

    Hi Campingmoon-
Welcome back! This is like a HS reunion!
Here it is, 2009, and we're still having the same issues as before- just different folks. Go figure.
I keep hoping that one of you guys will come back with the magic cure for FP10!

My goal certainly is to get Flash 10 to not hang IE7. I really don't understand why Adobe personnel are not posting here. Have they even acknowledged that there is a bug? I've got a process dump that says it is but they're not showing a lot of interest despite a number of users on this thread that are clearly willing to try different things to work around the issue.

Perhaps it's not high priority because the layman out there is blaming IE7. Hopefully MS starts putting the heat on Adobe to get on the stick. That or sites start using Silverlight or something that might not totally hose the browsing experience on these affected machines.

I can confirm the workaround posted by torrentsitos works beautifully for me (Vista 64). I downloaded the debug version of Flash 10 that he posted:

    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/10/flashplayer_10_ax_debug.exe

And sure enough, no more hangs in Internet Explorer. I do get the occasional debug popup if a flash app is coded badly (not often), but it doesn't seem to be slowing me down at all. I'm just thrilled to be done with the hangs - been experiencing them for months! Thanks torrentsitos!

Im so glad it also worked for you!... I've been using the Debug version for a while without issues...

Hopefully someone can try the new version just mentioned above this post and share their findings.

Maybe you missed some msgs above but the prob is IE7 crashing with Flash 10.
Flash 10 is buggy because has been proven by many other users that the problems started with v10. Hence my suggestion to go back to v9.0.151.0 that solves the same security issues of v10 but does not hang or crash (more than 10 dyas test and not a single crash or hang anymore).

In short: the prob. is IE7 crashing with Flash (10). If you downgrade to v9.0.151.0 you will solve the problem (waiting for the next fixed releases). This is helpful IMO.

No offense, but you're not being very helpfull on this thread. I see from your many other threads that you don't like v10, and that's OK, but no one is forcing you to upgrade. Stay at v9 if ya want to!
We're trying to help out Morac, and ourselves in the process.

    Hi Goshahriar-
    "..not being helpfull"
I remember that one. I posted it last year. I was replying to a person who did nothing but gripe in 5-6 threads. He didn't post any info, which didn't allow us to try to help him, nor did he provide any thoughts or ideas. He was just griping. Maybe he felt better, I don't know.
Whether you decide to get FP10 working, or wait for an Adobe fix, or revert to one of the v9's is entirely up to you.
I previously replied to you for more info on your system. Even though this thread is about FP10 Hang/IE7/Vista32, many of us are willing to help. I did not find a 100% cure for your issue in a search of this forum or on other forums.
BTW- I haven't heard from Morac in quite awhile, don't know if he's all set or not!

I had this problem today on a customers computer and I found this I'll try it on Monday and post back. But maybe it'll help someone else in the mean time.
