Question

Flash 12.0.0.44 doesn't work on all websites

Windows 7, Atom 2600 with 2GB ram, Explorer 11.0.2

When I go to CTV.ca and click on a video, I get a white area where video should be playing and no audio. It works fine on YouTube.com. Switching back to Flash 12.0.0.38 it plays! So problem is with new version.

New version works with Firefox on CTV.ca, but video is not smooth. It is probably playing at about 15 frames

per second or 15 Hz if you prefer. CTV streams videos at 30 Hz in f4f file format.

Hmmm... unfortunately, this...

is all I get, so I can't even try to troubleshoot.

Thanks for trying Mike. You would need to use a proxy server to troubleshoot and that is a can of worms in itself. Is anyone having this kind of trouble with US sites?

Internet Exploder 11 is having troubles everywhere. BBC.co and BBC.ca are just two places I know of.

MS deliberately screwed with the User-Agent strings for IE11, to 'trick websites out fo identifying it as IE (apparently they're ashamed of their flagship browser).

Some sites ID it as Firefox, some as Safari or Opera. But, since the IE browser engine can't function with content for Gecko or Webkit, it "pooch's" the viewing of the site.

If the pages can't ID the browser, they can't ID the plug-ins in it either. This has been a major problem with Windows 8, but it's starting to pop up more and more with 7.

Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using a different browser. Trouble with that is... it's seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.

I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.

Firefox (from Mozilla)

Opera (from Opera)

Safari (from Apple)

Chrome (from Google)

ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
