Flash 9 Does Not Work- Tried EVERYTHING

I tried everything from uninstalling, using the standalone, deleting registry keys, using the ocx files, EVERYTHING. I'm tired of "This is the answer" posts on internet, which did not work for me, even though I follow the direction word-for-word.
Anyone else share the feeling?
I can't use anything- youtube, aim....
i think i'm going suicidal.

    Hello All

I would like to Thank Darren for his instruction, and if you do not mind I want to enphasize on 2 little things that are important to know:

I had this problem with Flas install for over 2 months and like everyone I followed all the hints and instaructions including the ones by Darren McNally from Adobe.

The problem seems to be with permissions, for some reason Flash will not install nor play if you are not local admin to the machine. Also you'll not able to run any cleaning as described above, even if it looks like it is working.

I thought I was a Local Admin to my Machine (I'm a Net Admin at work) but the trick is that I'm a local admin only thru the network domain, and if you are not on the domain non of the above will work under your user name.

So if you login outside the domain make sure you login as administrator, enter the administrator password. and you can doo all the fixing suggested by Darren and on all the sites.

Since i do not like to login as local administrator, I created a new profile with local admin permissions and i was able to run flash on any site.

The problem with all this, ADOBE need to figure out a way to help users that are not techies, and I recommend that they change their Flash install to not require elevated permissions.

    Thank you all.

    Thank you ATinE-ville,

If you previously installed a later version of Flash Player, you may be prevented from reinstalling that same version or an earlier version. For example, if you installed Flash Player 9,0,47,0 and then removed it, and attempted to install version 9,0,45,0 the installation would fail.

    Solution:

Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Editing or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage, which may require reinstallation of the operating system. If you arenot comfortable editing the registry then it's best to take your machine to a professional. If you choose to proceed, it is essential to create a complete system backup and a Windows System Restore Point before proceeding. Adobe Systems cannot be held responsible for damage resulting from this information.

To test for and resolve this issue:

    Choose Start > Run.
Type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK to start the Windows Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions
Right-click and delete the folder named Safe Versions.
Using Internet Explorer for Windows, reinstall Flash Player from the Flash Player Download page on the Adobe website at

Ditto... this is an IE-related problem: my office machine is XPPro-SP2 with all patches. Flash 9,0,47,0 under IE7 just doesn't install. It runs the download or continues quietly through the various install links, but it remains at 9,0,45,0. Both Firefox and SeaMonkey on the same machine went to 9,0,47,0 AS A RESULT of the null IE7 process. The same machine is also running VMWare with a Windows 98SE VM on it . IE6 on the VM did the exact same thing... null response to both download and install links, but Firefox was at '47 afterwards. Ditto the home box which is Windows 98SE - IE6. Null to IE6, but Firefox was upgraded OK during the null process.

i don't have a problem with installing flashplayer, and i don' t have a problem with playing videos at "youtube" (which use flashplayer), but i do have problems with videos at yahoo and AOL that use flashplayer and i would like to figure out what the problem is.. at yahoo, the commercials that play at the beginning of clips will play fine, but when it comes to playing the videos that i am actually trying to view they will not play.. sometimes the videos won't start at all and other times they will start but then stop, with a message saying that the video cannot be played.. at AOL, i can play some videos, but not the videos that apparently use "flashplayer".. i have seen the same videos play, before, but not now.. i am thinking that maybe i have activex-killbits that are causing a problem.. otherwise, i don't know what the problem might be.. can someone at adobe tell me what activex controls i need to check in order for adobe flashplayer to play the videos at yahoo and AOL?

incidentally, i am running win xpsp2 and IE 6..

If you are unable to install Flash Player because your system registry is corrupt, you may want to use Microsoft’s SubInACL to fix the registry. Please see the link below for instructions:

I know that feeling, I am using Ubuntu and I can't get it to install period. I did everything word for word and I couldn't even get the terminal to recognize the directory that its in, I would rather go back to windows XP but I really don't know how to get it connected to the internet.

    Hi Trixi35,

These files are left after you run the Flash Player uninstaller?

    Flash9c.ocx
    FlashUtil9c
    install
    uninstall_activeX

These should all be removed, are you certain this is the case?

    Hi Darren.
Let's see if we can crack this one.
I have checked all permissions before using the stuff you mentioed.
I checked today the Swedish Nokia N95 site and found the Flash working. I went on checking the Swedish Sony Ericsson site. The front page Flash works but going on to the link Visa alla telefoner (Show all phones) the Flash loading does not start.

You didn't respond to my question about the registry keys named MISB Flash Wrapper. I Saw the Flashbroker key was Macromedia.

So, if you are interested in getting this one done. I am all up to it now.

    Regards
    Erik

Well, it's ok with me as a webmaster to go through all the above procedures. what about regular not tech aware visitor?? do you think they would want to come back to my website if i ask them to do all this?
these problems with flash player installation are the exact reason for a growing trend among developers to move away from the flash content to good old HTML. well, may i add: unfortunately..
