Flash Crashes in Windows 7, 64 bit

I have followed all the steps on : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html

Nothing seems to work. This issue started after Flash updated. It crashes in Firefox and IE (which I don't like to use). Firefox is my prefered browser, however, flash seems to be working in Chrome now.

I don't know what else to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

    Correct answer

Defender was not installed on this laptop first, I got it in Jan Which I think is after MSE cam out.

I thought I had found the problem, https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/blocklist/ , last item on list. Disabled it and no, didn't change anything.

In FF under Tools, Options, Content there is an option to block pop-up windows. Not as good as an external blocker but works for me.

Here is a list of plugins that are installed.

    1. Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2.163 - enabled
    2. Facebook plugin 1.0.1.0 - disabled (has been)
    3. GetPlusPlus for Adobe 16263 1.6.2.63 - disabled
    4. Google Earth Plugin 1.0.0.1 - enabled
    5. Google Update 1.2.183.23 - enabled
    6. Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.140.8 - disabled
    7. Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.200.2 - disabled
    8. Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U20 - enabled
    9. Mozilla Default Plug-in 1.0.0.15 - enabled
    10. Pisca 3.0.0.0 - enabled
    11. Shockwave Flash 10.0.45.2
    12. Shockwave for Director 11.5.7.609 - disabled

I played around with it some and disable a lot of the plugins, but it made no difference. When it crashes, it seems to only crash if the app or page has a lot of objects and movement. I thought it might be the Facebook app, but it works in other browsers. So it seems I am at an impass and will use a different browser for the time being.

    Thank you

Hi SQ, thanks. Interesting and helpful link from Mozilla. Yes, I know about that Deployment Toolkit, have mine Disabled for IE as well. I'm not a Developer for one thing and have no need of it, but Java Installs it anyway. Speaking of Java, do you have any Java version in the Programs and Features other than Java Update 20? If so I would Remove it from there.

The #3 ---GetPlusPlus is a problem, even tho you have it disabled. It is part of the DLM(download manager) that is used.

Go to Programs and Features via Control Panel and look to see if a DLM and or a getplus is listed. If one or either is there, use the Remove option for one or both. Then reboot your computer. Normally this will either remove the plug-in or make it inactive.

Now while you are in P/F, if there are any Java listing(s) other than the latest version, you can Remove them also.

If you can remove the Deployment Toolkit vs. 6.0.140.8 I would do so.

I'm not clear on what pop up blocker you are using, let me know.

    Thanks,

I have had something very similar happen and I believe I have it resolved.  I built a new Windows 7 64 Bit Theatre Computer with a Saphire video card.  The computer would crash using Flash.  I first experienced it using HuLu but then noticed again when listening to online radio.  I thought it was the video card and so I replaced it.  The second one had a bad fan and so a month later I finally got a good video card, but the only thing is it crashed too--extremely frustrating.

I did a lot of research today and found people were solving the issue by uninstalling the IDC Audio Driver.  I dont have the IDC Audio Driver.  I disabled my Realtek HD Audio within Device Manager.  Things started to work but without sound.  So, I uninstalled the Realtek Audio Driver through Add/Remove Programs.  I restarted my computer and Device Manager installed the Generic High Definition Audio Device Driver and we have sound.

I have even re-enabled hardware acceleration which was a definite killer to freezing my computer.  I am very happy now and hope this helps many.  What a headache that was.  Check out our Home Theatre Systems at www.hawkepc.com

Hi Nascar, start a thread in your name, as this one is still busy. Gets way too confusing, different systems, issues, etc.

Hi SQ, thanks for starting your thread. Perhaps we need to take a look at what Flash files are Installed. Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash  Right click on the Flash folder and Open. Then post back all of the files that

are listed there. The NPSWF files you will need to right click on and then click on Properties to obtain the version number.

You already said that the SWF plug-in version 10.0.45.2 was enabled.

    You are the Administrator?

Had you or have you Installed Flash Player in IE? Just wondering.

    What Anti-Virus/Firewall are you using?

Are you using Adblock? If so you may want to Disable it.

    Thanks,

    1) Flash10e.ocx, flashplayer.xpt, flashutil10e, install (notepad), NPSWF32_Flashutil, uninstall_activeX, uninstall_plugin

    2) Yes, I am the Admin

    3) Version 10.0.45.2 is installed and enabled in IE

    4) Windows Defender/ Windows Firewall (haven't found a firewall I like yet)

    5) No I am not using Adblock

Hi SQ, thanks for the info. Your Flash files for IE are correct and the SWO ActiveX Control Flash10e.ocx is correct also. You should not be having any problem with Flash Player when using IE.

The Flash files for FF (other browsers, including Chrome) are incomplete. You may want to re-check the Flash folder and make sure you didn't overlook a file. You should have a NPSWF32.dll there also, to complete the Flash files for "other browsers"

If you are still having a problem when using IE, then most likely it is an add on conflicting either with the browser or another add on.

    Thanks,
