Question

Flash doesn't display Chinese pinyin properly

I am visiting a site for learning Chinese and their Flash-based quizzes which apparently are in pinyin (western characters with special diacriticals to show tones rather than actual Chinese characters) are showing as garbled characters. I have Windows 7, several chinese fonts installed and Chinese webpages display fine, but for some reason this website doesn't work. I'm using Chrome and the Flash is the latest version (you can see on the graphic). I'm including the website address in case you cant read it well.

My thought is that there is a problem with their site or encoding, but I want to know this for sure before I bring it to their attention.

Have you reached out to speakmandarin.com to ask about this?  I just gave this a try with Flash Player 10.3 and I'm seeing the same results.  I'll try going back to an earlier 11.x release to see if it's also the same.

Thanks,

Chris
