    Correct answer

yes i just use ie8 and i have window xp home 2002 sp3

    contents of system32/macromed/flash are:

    flash10|.ocx

    flashutil10|_activex.dll

    flash install text document

    flashutil10|_activex installer/uninstaller

under tools/addons i see shockwave activex control version 11.5.9.615 and it is enabled

i had avg installed before and i did use their removal tool

Hi, thanks. Your Flash files are correct. The problem is that the Shockwave Flash Object was not Installed. The one you listed is for Shockwave Player which is a separate program. The SFO is the one needed for FP to work and that is the problem.

Ok on using the AVG removal tool, that is the best way when Uninstalling programs.

I take it you didn't receive any error messages when Installing.

Do you use adblock or any popup blocking software? If so disable it. If not, read on:

Are you comfortable in looking at a particular Key in the Registry? Some new information has come about in the last couple of days. One of our users found that either a virus/spyware (not sure) had turned this SFO off in the Registry. There are programs out there that people can use if they don't want Flash content ads, etc on their computers. A Sub-Key that does this is in the Registry. If it is there, then you take care of it. If it isn't then you don't have to do anything. I'll give you this link and you can read it. It explains how someone can set this Kill-bit, then close to the end of the article explains how to reverse it.

The person that posted this found the Kill-bit was there, reversed it and FP then worked after Installing.

Another user yesterday was having a problem with the SFO not Installing, saw that post and followed it and had success.

Take a look at it and see what you think. Keep in mind the first part of the article is about how to PREVENT Flash content, which you don't want to do!!

Hi, Since it's late here in my time zone I can give you this info if you want to try to Uninstall/Install for IE.

Download the Uninstaller and SAVE it to your Desktop:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Download the Installer and SAVE it to your Desktop:

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

(Use the one for Windows, Internet Explorer, the EXE Installer.

You will click on each one once and a window will open and you will choose SAVE and the location when asked will be your Desktop.

Then Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop. Disable any messenger services in your system tray.

    Use the Administrator Account.

Open and Run the Uninstaller and when it's finished, Reboot.

Open and Run the Installer and when it's finished, Reboot.

Go here to test: You should be able to see the Flash logo animate(spin) and the version of Flash Player will be displayed.

Hi, Let's take a look at your Flash files. Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed. You didn't say if you use any other browser than IE, but if you see any files listed as NPSWF, then right click on them and then click on Properties to obtain the version number.

Using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons and look for Shockwave Flash Object. Let me know if it's listed, enabled and what version.

Before you had Avast, what Anti-Virus did you have and did you use their Removal Tool?

Also did you receive any error messages when Installing?

Let me know what version of IE you use and are you using XP Home or XP Pro and what servcie pack.

    Thanks,
